just wondering if anyone has done this if so how did it sound and was there alot of backfiring etc? all the other bikes ive had i would use a concrete form stake to punch a hole in baffle untill i could get my pipes just for noise sake

remember loud pipes save lives

I've heard rumors that it's been done, but I don't recall anyone actually posting a how-to.

If you do it, let us know how it works out!

There is a mod to drill holes into the back of the pipes... it does make it louder..

I'll see if I can find the post.

Yeah, I recall seeing a post...

Something about using a Dremel to carefully grind the weld off the allen bolts and then removing the tip. With the tip off it was fairly easy to get in there and drill some holes in the baffle.

Now, that said, my neighbor has a new Fat Boy w/ stock pipes. He wanted them to be louder...so I used a hole-saw with an extension and drilled out his baffle; you could probably do something similar once the tip is off your stock can.

I have a set I'll sell you. I modified mine and they sound very close to my D&D bolt ons I had on my 2002 LE. No back-fire either.

that looks pretty good. Did you follow the same steps that were in the link on this post or did you do it a different way. Also, where did you get the black color.

Hight-heat header paint.

As for the mod, I used a 1/2" x 10" Long drill inside both ends of the cans. About six holes each end.

I carefully ( proper tools and pieces modified on a lathe)removed the whole baffle and insulation, cut out the section between the baffles ends and reinseted a straihgt baffle tube. Inserted all back in with stock insulation and extra insulation. sounds a little louder than stock and breathes better. this mod cost me $125 in parts.

The look and sound off stock with the performance of the bolts-on , I copied the yosh pipe internals.

Note - I can change the sound by re-wrapping with less or loose insulation. My neighbours like my bike quiet.

I'll post pictures soon.
