Removing the right fairing

I can see all the bolts that need to come off to remove the right fairing. And I read about taping the front fairing. But, both manuals refer to a fastner and a hook. From the pics, I can't see what they want you to do.

Does the top fairing have to come off too? Simply removing the bolts and pulling won't do. All I want to do is change the oil without having to tear the bike apart.

The whole right side fairing has to come off. Did you get the two screws inside the front wheel well and what about the fastener by the right handgrip?

Also, there's a rubber butt plug on the inner which plugs into a rubber ring right next to the gas tank. You just lift up on the inner and it should pop right outta there.

Hope that's descriptive enough!

I just changed my oil and filter. I found it easier to remove and intall the sides by having the (wind) shield removed. You can see better where the plugs (fastners) are by the radiator.

I decided to ask before getting out the tools. I didn't know about the screws in the front wheel well. That would have been a show stopper. I see a fastener by the front hand grip. It is black and looks like it has a C clip holding it. It looks like the fastener would fall inside the bike if I pull the clip. Can I get at it from the inside if I raise the fuel tank?

The manual has a circle drawn indicating a release about 14" back from the fastener. There is nothing there, so I am assuming they mean on the underside. Any info on that? Seems like there are always a lot of gotchas![/b]

Many thanks for all the help you can give.

Hmmm no c-clips. use a small screw drive and pry the center up about a quarter inch, then pull out the whole clip. Then the sliver fairing screw right under the throttle.
Also if you turn the wheel to the left. Reach down behind the righ fork and theres a push pin down there. Push that in and pull it out...you then can leave the screws in the wheel well in.  Remove all the outer fairing screws and both front screws on the "Tiger Wing" or whatever the real term is. Prop the tank up. Slightly pull the bottom of the fairing out and gently twist the fairing off to remove it from under the nose can and to pull out the dowl thats kinda under the tank.

Thanks! I think I have it now. It's kind of like removing the dash in your car to open the hood, but I'll get it.
