Retreads

I like to look around for a cheaper tire to burn off on the straight line tracks to save my actual street tires. This process has gotten much more mileage out of my good sets.

Anyway, I came across this tire on Ebay that says "Condition: Seller refurbished: A properly rebuilt automotive part. The item has been completely disassembled, cleaned, and examined". It looks like a new tire and they have sold over 50 of them.

Anyway, looking at their other items it looks like the retread airplane tires. No other information supplied for this tire so it got me curious thinking they may be retreading bike tires.

What do you think.

I did send them a question asking what they mean by their definition.

I don't know about retreads on a bike, cars and trucks are different because you have 3 other tires to rely on.

I'm just guessing that these might be retreads. I would never run them if they were, even in a straight line...safety first and kind of hard to wire ties tires.

I am just curious if you all get the same impression that these might actually be retreaded tires because they do not say specifically.

I thought it odd that someone may actually be retreading bike tires (if they are) and selling them cheap with limited information. :banghead:

PS: I'm not asking if you would run a retread because I for one absolutely would not, I'm wondering if you see this as a possible retread like I do.

I didn't know they retreaded motorcycle tires. Car tires are flat so I would use those, but bike tires being round I don't know about that one. Refurbished to me, I would think they mean retread. How else would it be refurbished besides that? ???

That is what I am thinking. I don't see any other meaning of the word refurbished. They really should list that in the auction.

Looks like they have sold a ton of them to possibly unsuspecting riders.

if you want cheap but real good tires for drag racing get some from your local track riders . They wear the sides out and sell'em cheap

Yep, make friends with someone that road races. They sell off the track takeoffs cheap, and the centers are barely worn.

Been getting take offs for about $60 for a decent rear. The cement at Maxton rips right through them but they do really well for the price. A little harder to come by this time of year though. Especially since Tuff buys em all up~!~

Tomahawk tires are retreads, a 600 I bought a few years ago had them on it and compared to the michelins pilot powers I usually run they felt downright dangerous when leaned over, the profile was very square.

The following was copied off the tomahawk web site;

Our T1 has excellent dry and wet traction, smooth cornering and good wear. High silica content offers Sport tire grip, handling and performance. Any road dirt washes up with soap and water.

Remold technology is our special process of taking an existing tire and re-vulcanizing new "virgin" rubber back on, using state-of-the-art European equipment. All Tomahawk tires are tested using Laser Shearography (X-Ray), inspecting inside the tire body, making our factory one of the most sophisticated of its type in the world. In fact, our main business is the remolding of aircraft tires, which we hold FAA approval rating for up to 225 MPH ground speeds! Since most new tires do not go through shearography and our tires do, it may be said that Tomahawk tires are produced to a higher standard than new tires.

Never heard of retreading bike tyre's.
Just looked up some reviews which said they are retreads.
Most of the reviews said they wouldn't recommend them.
Used to retread car and truck tyre's in the 80s, and you do get returns where something has gone wrong, so I would never use them on a bike.
Like FlatlandBusa posted they do seem to check them well, but things go wrong with new stuff as well, so retreads on a bike I would say no.
I know things have changed since the 80s, so I don't know about the technology now with retreading.

thats a new one on me. I dont like em on a truck, let alone a bike. there are a few places I refuse to pinch pennies on the bike or cars.

i have friends that mainly drag race and other friends that track race. they trade tires after a while, becuase the drag strip guys have a ton of tread left on the sides and vice versa. maybe if you can find a hook up like that.

 i wouldnt run them but ya they are retreds. kinda scarry hu.

I got the comfirmation email and sure enough, as some of us thought/or confirmed they are in fact retreaded from side wall to side wall. Out of the question for my bike~!~

I myself was looking online for a rear 190 for my Busa and ran across this brand and wondered the same. inquired with this company and stated as what the website says. I also saw a brand if i remember right was M-3 and looked the same.. but more money. I normally run track take offs due to pricing of $80 a set vs $300 new tires (give or take $$) and for my easy riding, they last awhile. Think this last year I put 2 rears on and one front to tune of $160 for 6000 miles.. the rougher you ride, the less you get mileage wise. But now with the season of riding done.. no one has any take offs and I've got a nail in my rear. Havent been riding it much anyhow but the one time I do want to ride it, weather permitting, I couldnt.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to all.. sorry am not on here much..
