Riding alone and crash? this scares me

I remember that post you made. This is one of the reasons Juli will not let me take off all day by myself. Her: "Is Michael going with you?" Me: "No, he is busy this weekend." I am going to ride Sally this weekend, I miss being out.
 
I ride alone all the time and never thought twice about it until I was talking with a man from Indiana on his way home (From Socal). He said he was going to take it easy on the Busa because he was alone and had bad knees. It dawned on me that in case of an accident, riding with someone else could very well save a lot of pain, suffering and your life. I can only hope the young man did not suffer too long before expiring.
Good food for thought.
 
we had something similar happen here in Missouri, the guy wasn't found for like 2 days, very sad, kind of hard to partner up sometimes when some of our friends live in opposite directions, just gotta be careful out there...
 
I also had a similar thing in my neighbor. A guy left the bar around 11pm and never made it home which was a few miles away. From the bar the road went straight for about two miles to a dead end then he needed to turn left but never did it. A family member decided to take a longer walk into the woods where the road ends and they found him.
The cops estimated he was going way over a hundred. He was reported as a missing person 2 days before he was found.

That's what I was thinking, but we don't know if this was measured or just a guesstament.

I almost always ride alone, but always have the cell with me with the GPS feature on.
 
very sad.i too ride alone alot. i dont think about this type of situation as much. if its my time to go its my time to go. i dont have a say on HOW i go.
 
I ride alone alot, even when i ride with friends i still have about 30 miles of twisty road to get home by myself. Cell on my person, not the bike.
If i worried about accidents above my usual safe ridng style, i wouldn't ever get on the bike. I'm more scared crawing under the house to fix the plumbing and dying under there! Claustophobic..:laugh:

Is why I said "hotdogging" I tend to be a bit more conservative riding alone.. besides when alone, you are the slowest guy in the pack and the one cops will get every time... you gotta have a sacrificial lamb... :)
 
That's horrible.
I sure hope he didn't suffer.

I love to ride solo. Nothing against friends or buddies, but not too many folks like to ride like I do. It's relaxing and really is "MY" time. Thinking back to all the solo cross-country and 1000 mile trips I've made, something like this makes you consider how dangerous solo riding can be. I don't think about it too much in an urban area like SoCal but on the highway or a road trip out of town... I've passed through so many places that on reflection... I wouldn't have been missed for days, if not weeks.

Always check in frequently. Tell someone... ANYONE... where you're going and route.
 
ok this is turning into a "fraidy cat to ride alone" thing and that is not what it was meant...

just that if you are going to ride like an "idiot" do it with with friends so they can call the meat wagon for you....

they do not find your body 1/10 of a mile from the road if you are riding "sanely"....
 
had a friend slid off the highway last year, several people witnessed him going off the road, and called the police, but non of them stopped to offer him help or to point as to where he had slid off the road, so the police end up driving down up down and all around these 4 different off/on ramps never finding him for 45 minutes untill he finally crawled on his elbows far enough to be seen holding his cell phone in the air with the light on...he had two broken legs and a broken arm and clavicle....bet that was the longest 45 min of his life...he is ok today thank god...the police later tracked down two of the callers and charged them with leaving the scene and not offering help...
 
What I want to know Bogus, is just how fast would one be traveling to travel 520 feet off the road? Must have been over a cliff?

Oh boy I love math problems :) we need photos of the ground first..

but lets say he was running 100 mph.. Take 3.25 seconds if he stayed on the bike? that is a long time..

Gotta figure he crashed and rolled?

I have no idea deceleration rates of a body going rag-doll. but you gotta know he was flying either through the air or hauling the mail...
 
For me, the enjoyment of riding alone far outweights the risks.

BusaWhipped always makes sure he leaves a route plan up on the computer. And he checks in at least once even if he is riding with someone.

+1 figure that is the next best thing to having a locator beacon...i live by myself and work 7 on 7 off most of the time, there are plenty of times i could die from a wreck, heart attack, or whatever and not really be missed for days...i figure i'll go when it is my time and i'm not going to worry about it between now and then
