I noticed the other day my forks have been getting softer and softer so I checked the bottom for leaks and everything was clean. So I went over a speed bump the other day and the shocks locked out in the full extended position(I guess they call it the slide hammer effect). So I tapped on the front brakes and they dropped back down. It's progressively getting worse so she's in the shop right now. I can literally push up and down on the forks with no real pressure and it's like a pogostick. Any ideas what could be going wrong??? I'm think there's no fluid in it. Hopefully nothing internally is fucked up.

It could be the valving is shot. If that's the case you could still have all your fluid but it's just sitting inside your forks and not doing anything.

That's what I'm hoping hasn't happened...it's crazy how both of them or bad though. I'm gonna take them apart tomorrow hopefully and see what's going on inside.

I know very little about the internals on a busa fork, but I'm with "nosbig". I mean, if fluid didn't leak out, what else can it be?

The cartridge inside is filled with a shim stack / holes in the shims . FYI if some one played with your rebound adjustment on top it can make it feel funny . Have you changed your fork oil at the recommended intervals ? Most makes are 10,500 miles some a bit more some as low as 7500 miles

The first thing I did was tighten the compression and rebound to see if anything changed and it did nothing at all. I purchased the bike from a private seller around September time and it had a little over 20,ooo miles on it, so I doubt it has been serviced at all but I've bought new fork seals and all that good jazz and I'm gonna crack em open Thursday. If she's dry I'm just gonna change the fork seals and add fluid.

are you familiar with USD style forks ? If not you find what you need through youtube . Racetech put together a nice video years ago .

I called Racetech and explained to them what was going on and the first thing they said was valving issues then he said maybe the oil has just broken down to a point where it's not doing anything within the valves.

That could very well be possible.
If its in your means or budget let them do the work for you . .
Always 1st class job by them .
FYI im not connected to them in any way other than seeing their work on many of my customers bikes

Yeah I'm an intern at a bikeshop and I've went to MMI over 7 years ago so basic stuff is nothing to do. But if it comes down to me having to do valves or anything they will be shipped off to get worked on properly.

So figured out what was wrong...whoever fucked wit the forks last time didn't put the cap on all the way and it came off the damper rod. The locking nut was backed all the way off. It fucked up the first couple of threads on each cap but we re-threaded them very carefully.
