RIP Bill Simpson

Bill Simpson, the founder of Simpson Safety Equipment died today. Some may remember that when Dale Earnhardt Sr. died there was a lot of blame on Simpson for the failed seat belt, even though it proved later to be an installation error. Simpson was responsible for perhaps the most iconic Motorcycle helmet of all time, the Simpson Bandit. Many years ago a friend, who worked in a motorcycle parts distributor had literally wanted one forever. LSS his coworker came across one for sale by a customer and was going to buy it, only to destroy it with a sledgehammer in front of the first guy just for spite! Friends indeed!

Interesting story man. I had never even heard of Simpson helmets. I wonder if that's the same Simpson that makes construction rigging?

The RX helmet does meet Snell SA 95 standards. I'd suggest going to Snell's website and see what the SA 95 standard is, before I bought one. I can only guess that since it's considered to be a "racing" helmet, Simpson didn't have DOT or ANSI test the helmet. The way I understand it, the DOT (US...
