RS3 Exhaust- Inserts in or out?? Opinions?

All-

I finally got my Yoshi RS3s installed. I love the looks and the weight loss is great. I left the inserts in, which Yosh says keeps them to a nice quite low 96ish DB rate. The Busa is now just a hair deeper than stock I would say, although it sounds pretty good wound up. Wondering if any of you Yosh riders had taken out the inserts, which then truly opens them up to a straight through design and should ring in around 102db?

Tomorrow I will be riding a couple hundred miles and I am thinking about taking out the inserts, but not between now and then so I'm not in a hurry. In a few minutes I could pull them easy enough, unless someone here has already tried it and had an opinion. Anyone riding open?

Thanks-

Corso

OUT!

I never put mine in my R-77's.. I have no clue how they sound with them in. Out sounds beautiful!

Take out the inserts for the ride you have coming up. I am sure you will not want to put them back on afterwards :) FWIW, I have always removed inserts in every Yosh pipe I have owned over the years.

Far be it for me to be a dissenter... but I would leave them in. For many boringly practical reasons:

  • Stealth factor - loud pipes can attract undue LEO attention.
  • Squid factor - seems most all sportbikes have loud-ass exhaust; why be like the rest of the herd?
  • On longer rides/touring, a loud exhaust tone is a source of fatigue and aggravates the resulting "road hum" when you finally do stop.
  • A reasonable exhaust note is socially responsible. (Though I realize many consider this a reason for removal.)

I left in the sound baffle in my R-77... at the end of many many 1000-mile days, I am reminded how glad I did!

Have fun, whatever you decide! :beerchug:

Much appreciate Warchild, but to be clear....we aren't talking about removing the baffles. Just the "Quiet Tip" insert that is held in the end of the pipe. Yosh has incorporated them in most of their pipes over the years I believe. Two Bros has a similar option, but they refer to them as "Power Tips". LOL.

I wouldn't dream of pulling baffles.....it's not a Harley!!!

Some (I guess including me) refer to it as a "sound baffle" - but, YES, that is *exactly* what I referring to, the db quiet tube near the exit point that is retained by a allen-head bolt.

Well....I am siding with Warchild on this one for sure. Pulled the tips and rode it for an hour. IMO ruins the exhaust completely. Now...to be fair...if I had intentions of editing the PCM or adding a Power commander to the bike anytime soon I might gauge accordingly, but on my completely stock set up all it did was make the exhaust raspy and contribute to occasional pops, etc.
Put the tips back in as soon as I got home. One thing I will say for the RS3, it may not be significantly audible, but it certainly cleans up the throttle response. I would guess the tone is just a hair deeper than stock, but damn does it rev clean. Overall I am extremely happy, although adjusting the twins to sit evenly is a pain in the arse! Eventually I will get it perfect, then I will install the rivet.

Thanks everyone!

I just installed RS3's on mine too with the same expierance. I pulled the sound tubes out and it was raspy and popped. I put mine back in as well. Much louder than stock without being obnoxious :beerchug:
