Saw A Christmas Tree This Morning!

Title states it all. Had engine, ABS and TC lights lit up as I go to get on the on ramp. It seemed okay at first until I started to roll the throttle and realized I was limited. Getting to 60 wasn't bad, but up to interstate speeds merging wasn't exactly fun. I knew there was a turn around on the interstate not far, but passed it up looking for it in the dark. By the time I'd get to the next turn around to go back home, it'd been the same to ride to work and I didn't have concern of it leaving me on the side of the road.

I've ridden the bike to work for the past 3 weeks. After work Friday it was parked over the weekend with the only thing done was to put it on the rear stand to clean/lube the chain. I don't know how that would upset the bike and it's the first cleaning it's gotten this year (aka past due), but never turned on or started so don't think it's likely. Went to go to lunch on it, crossing my fingers it'd clear itself and wouldn't need tools to reset the battery. Everything is back to normal. Figured I'd toss a post on here to see if anyone has any ideas, not too concerned unless it happens again. I suspect the ABS, maybe I didn't bleed my rear good enough.

I can attest that there's almost nothing worse than that feeling when those lights light up and bike is in basically "limp" mode...

I've been battling that demon with my bike for a while and hopefully I was able to resolve it but my issue is much different than yours..

If ABS and TC was lit up, I think you've probably nailed it....something told the ECU to get cranky.....

Thinking back, I think this is the first time I've had anything go into limp mode. Most of the time on other vehicles, I'm just stuck, lol.

See what happens this week, at least until it finally rains again here.

You've done so much to your bike that trying to back-track would be a huge job at this point...

Maybe check all the electrical connections again, you never know if one wiggled loose a little...??

That's the negative side to it all, at least at this point, lol. Only positive is I didn't really do anything crazy to the bike and most all mechanical. I didn't mess with anything electrical other than the tail wiring, but it was plug and play for brake modulator (which is possible cause). May have not plugged in something quite good enough around the ABS pump when I was bleeding them a year ago. I likely unplugged something there for more hand access with tank on. I've put ~2500 miles on the bike since finished which is good, hopefully means it's likely something minor/silly.

I'll dig into those things a little after work just to see. I'll report back if anything is amiss.

My silver Gen3 acted like this and it was my rear abs sensor that was barely rubbing the ring due to a failed ceramic bearing… I could see small particles on the wheel and swingarm. It will look like normal dirt but being its first ride after a thorough wipe down, the amount of shiny dust (rear magnet) gave it away. Hope this helps.

A buddy of mine got rough idle on his Gen 3 and sometimes engine would cut off after starting. He also had a Christmas tree. He removed the fuel tank and to his horror found nesting rubbish and chewed out vacuum hoses and wires.

Turns out the two months the bike was parked in his garage waiting for his seats to return in the mail with custom covers, a rodent squatter moved in. He had to cut and solder wires and re-pin some harnesses.

He was pretty calm about the whole thing in every video he sent me with new developments. I probably would've man-cried internally if that mess happened to my new piggy.

I haven't pulled codes or looked at it yet, it's been parked since Monday. I meant to crank it last night to go around the block but started raining. I definitely wouldn't be surprised if the sensor was dirty, I forget it's back there. 02s are gone harness harness covered.

It rains alot here, but one good thing about here is rodents are rare to find around shops or at least mine. With the type car advertisement about things that repel them from vehicles, always wondered if it was that bad up north. Confirmed now!

UPDATE.

Never did pull codes, but did clean the reluctor wheel. Yesterday I'd get warning and ABS at 9k RPMs, not RPM limited afterwards. Took a closer look and saw my ABS sensor on caliper mount had rotated so only half was covering reluctor wheel. Everything seems fine now, hadn't had it go into limp mode since I originally posted.

I do not think scientists have a good handle on this, whether we see more or whether the population has tangibly grown. But it is possible as some have written that the white-footed mouse population has exploded throughout areas of the country (due to mild winters?). I have trapped many in multiple places I have lived in recent years and several people I know have had infestations of this or other mice in their house.

I am dubious of those repellent scents for animals such as deer and mice. I have an extremely difficult time believing they will avoid food or a place to sleep over an offensive smell such as peppermint…I see friends on FB swearing by them…Hrm.
