Can somebody tell me how to adjust my shifter, down, before I go nuts ? I keep getting this "snag" going into 6'th gear. I'm hoping this will help out a little, before I mess something up, if I didn't already ?

THANKS !!!

The evil 6th gear strikes again.
Loosen the 2 lock nuts on the shifter arm going up to the transmission and turn the threaded rod one way or the other to move the shifter up or down. Don't forget to retighten the lock nuts.
I've given up on 6th gear ever shifting smoothly. You have a double notch type of feeling on the shift, right? It goes in smoother at over 4500 rpm or so but otherwise I just wrench up on the shifter and wait for it to do both notches and then it's in gear. PITA but apparently what it takes to not get the 5-6 neutral.
Hope this helps..  Tom

Dude thanks !!!!!!!!!! That's exactly what it's like !! Hey, maybe we have a 7'th gear, LOL. And yes when I'm flying(just like you said, above 4500 rpm) it shifts just as smooth as can be, in all gears !! Does your 1'st gear do it too ? Mineshifts great if I shift at low rpm, or at high rpm, but from 3 to 5 rpm forget it ? Thanks again !!

Try using synthetic oil (amsoil).

Uhhh..what Rhythm said, been running MCF 10w40 for the last 19,000 miles and I shift into sixth just lugging along with no problems. Soemtimes I'm just goofing with rpm seeing how "Low can you go".....

does it matter what kind of synthetic oil you use ? I've been using Mobile 1, for 1000 miles now ?

can someone tell me why it doesn't do it if I upshift without the clutch ? If I run through the gears 1 time (2'nd - 6'th) the shift into 6'th won't snag for a while ? WTF ?

Second oil change is coming up for mine and I'll switch to full synthetic (Motul), but I figure it'll take a few oil changes and a few miles until everything settles in.
First 5 gears work flawlessly up or down and I don't use 6th gear that much anyway, so when I do I just let it take it's time. Riding around the problem.

Second gear and sixth share a shift fork that often gets bent. That's what happened to mine and I lost sixth first and then eventually lost second as well. My bike gets extra hard duty, though - and it still lasted 16k miles before needing a tranny rebuild.

no problem with 6th gear here but 2nd at high rpms sux for me,yesterday she kicked back several times b4 i could get her in 2nd around 7k rpm

DEVLDOG, have you tried adjusting your shifter down abit?
That's the first mod I do to all Busas. It makes the throw shorter from 1st to second.

Well I've been riding with my shifter adjusted WAY down for a few days now, and I wish I would have done this sooner !! Shifts seem way shorter ! My foot's only an 8 1/2, and before it felt like I was having to lift my whole foot to finish the shifts.

It costs a couple grand to have the shift forks replaced, right ? How much does it usually cost to have your tranny under cut ?

THANKS FOR THE HELP !!! I'd be lost without you people !!!!!

I found a fresh undercut tranny from Fast by Gast with a billet output shaft for around $700 + core. Shift forks are @ $150 for both, and a local mechanic is putting it all in (and doing motor work) for around $500.
