Shifting from 1st to 2nd trouble

I am wondering if its normal on a new Hayabusa for the upshift from first to second to hit the N position, happens once every 5 or so upshifts. I am a very experienced rider and have not had this issue in other bikes, is it normal, will it break in or will I have to take it to dealer to get looked at? Other than that this thing shifts prefect.

I had the same problem on my 08 when I got it. Have you adjusted your shift lever up or down? That was what solved my problem. Make sure your shifts are firm also and it should go away.

Mine did it when new, seemed to have gone away after my first oil change.

put some toe into that thing and it will straighten out...these things are meant to handle power and shift a lot harder than smaller bikes i have had...it is hilarious when you are sitting at a red light with a group of friends and the light turns green, all you hear is chunka, chunka, chunka as everyone kicks into first  use that same force to push it past neutral to second and you'll be fine, just takes a bit to get used to it :beerchug:

when i got my gen2, i had the problem occasionally 1 to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd.
basically, i lowered my gear lever and now i only change by clutchless up shifting, and shift like you mean it.

i also have a quickshifter and can shift from 1 to 2nd using it, but always shift hard. now done 16,000 miles gear change nice.

I had the same problem on my 09 . Like others said. Adjust the shift lever. That fixed it for me

mine does it. it normally happens when I wear my nikes over my boots. i guess thats an adjustment problem/not hitting it hard enough.

Not really a problem, just a Busa. First oil change might help some, adjusting it will make a lot of difference, but you really have to kick her into second and sixth, false neutral between fifth and sixth too.

My 09 did it a few times the first 1000 miles when I was in high RPM shifting 1st to 2nd. I didnt adjust anything. Not sure if I just learned to shift with more force or it went away.
I wouldnt take it to the dealer and take a chance of them messing something else up or having it for joy rides.

Had the same problem. The adjustment and wear in have made it go away. I also agree with people that are saying that you have to get used to the bike. It does not shift like smaller bikes.

Try this, next time you're sitting at your desk or watching TV, rest the ball of your right foot on the phalanges to metatarsal joints of the left foot.
Pull up with your left foot, and resist with the right.
It's an isometric exercise to strengthen the tibialis anterior muscle (shin), and help power through that darned stubborn neutral position! ;)
