Shifting

i need to get something straight. i have heard a few different ways to shift on sport bikes. obviously first gear has to be clutched. am i supposed to be clutching every gear or just blipping the gas to up-shift. thanks.

could you be a bit more specific? are you talking about preloading the shifter? i have heard that but never really tried.

NO No Im sorry , Im talking about flipping your gearshift over so you have to pull up for first gear and push down for the rest

sounds interesting. does anyone else do this? sounds good for drag racing. now back to my question, should i be using the clutch to shift after first?

Personal preference I think. I use the clutch when I am just cruisin' around. When it gets time to haul a##, I don't use it. Try it both ways & see what works best for you. Preloading the shifter as mentioned above really helps with the clutchless shifts..

I like the idea of reverse shifting but having rode for so long I would end up forgetting and pull a downshift going REAL fast and end up breaking something.

I am cool with the current clutch setup... and who says you can't clutchless shift in first...

I do.... (Just make sure you are at redline, then roll-off, pop it quick and go....) It comes out real easy at high RPMs.... If you try to clutchless shift in the lower RPMs, it will feel like it wants to stick right where it is...

I don't ever clutchless shift unless I am racing, in other words in the red...

If you don't know that you "should" clutch shift for every gear, I recommend that you take the MSF course for your & everyone else's safety!

Yeah I messed up a few times when i first changed it around, but got used to it and love it , makes it great for racing and doing good long wheelies,

I have taken the course, but still choose to clutchless shift along with many other to love to race....

What did you think an airshifter does for you... ;) It applies same concept....

True an airshifter does do that for you, but then again. I'm not the one that asked the question!

could some one tell me how an air shifter works. i think i get the idea and concept but i would like someone to tell me the nitty gritty. does the clutch need to be modified?

i think i like the clutch when crusin, and no clutch when going all-out theory.:)

The air shifter does almost exactly what clutch shifting is... Kills throttle and pops the gears... pretty simple device reallly...

not cheap though.

Cheaper to clutchless shift yourself, although I may not be as fast as the machine, I am close enough... ;)

I clutchless shift all the time. Up and down the gears.

Just whatever your preference is.

Chevelle is right - the air shifter kill the ignition for the length of the shift.

Almost all road racers use the 1st "up" and the rest "down" for shifting orientation - pretty standard on the track.

Also, Keith Code teaches you in his Superbike School to to make your shifts without the clutch. If the engine and transmission speeds are "matched" by bliping the throttle, the bike will shift effortlessly.

Thank you guys for the correction...

what do you have to do to reverse the shifting? is it just a mechanical adjustment i need to do with the shifter, or do i need to modify something else?
