i have a pretty much stock 03 and i was wondering is the shock fine for riding with a passenger or do i need upgrade, ive seen on ebay the heavy duty shock spring by all things chrome is that good enough? and will that be a pain in the :moon: when riding solo? im lookin at also getting 3+ swingarm later down the road and will it be fine for that to, or should i jus go ahead and change shock/spring now.... im jus tryng to put a list together of all the parts i need. i jus got the bike and im over seas but i want everything ready as soon as i touch down in april for leave to either try to install myself ooooor pay to have it done in houston... cas im only gonna have a month then back to bahrain hopefully i will be able to get it shipped out there.

any more suggestions for a 2 up tourer/street fun

add either the buel pegs or adjustable rear sets for touring comfort

depending on your combined (rider + passenger) touring weight would determine if you need to swap springs. You can crank in some pre-load for touring as a starting point and just the complression & rebound as well for comfort. If the combined weight is way above the OE spec. than a stiffer spring may be neccessary.

Also with an extended arm you will want a stiffer spring even for solo unless you like things on the very soft side.

Since your focus seems to be two up touring you may want to also add raised bars to you list. Alost of the hard core touring guys like this change to the riders ergo's. I'm sure they'll chime in soon to this thread.

what are the OE specs? rider 195 +passenger 130?= 325 ish is what im working with

My wife and I ride 2 up all the time at more than the weight you specified, you will be good until you stretch the bike.

I agree with twotonevert, with those weights you don't need a heavy duty coil. Just up the preload a little. :beerchug:

thanks for the relpies, another quick question as far as the stretch would 3-4 need any major change with the same weights, i would have went 6 but i figured inbetween would be best for looks and performance... i plan on getting stationed in europe in the next few years and i know there are alot more curves than straights at least where ive been so far in greece, sicily, italy, and spain...

go ahead and change shock/spring now....

Not the cheapest, but the name Ohlins speaks for itself when it comes to shocks. I sent this one out for a Gen-II owner a short bit ago.
