Short trip to Germany

This weekend I went for a trip to Germany with a friend having a Kawasaki GTR 1400 (the Concours). The plan was to go to the Rhein valley and maybe also make a short visit to the Nurburg Ring. It started to rain and hail already on the ferry from Denmark to Germany, so the plan was changed and we decided to stay in the northern part of Germany for some high speed driving between Lubeck-Hamburg-Hannover, which we did. There are very long sections on the Autobahn without speed limit restrictions on this route.

The Busa was taken up to 186 mph several times and it still pulls very strong at this speed. The bike has no 6th speed restrictor and has three more teeth vs. stock rear. The bike is also totally stable at full speed and has now passed the examination with the highest possible score.

I also tested the Concours and the findings are as follows:

  • The bike is too big for me (5.7), but is very comfy at low and medium speeds and it looks vey nice as well
  • It manoeuvres very well at low and medium speeds and is easy to handle a low speed due to the upright seating position
  • It is quite strong considering it's massive weight and pulls hard up to about 125 mph
  • 6th gear is more or less useless, it kills the bike completely
  • Above 125 mhp it has not much to deliver engine wise. The Busa pulls much stronger close to 186 mph than the Concours does close to 125 mph
  • The Concours started to weave and wobble slightly after 125 mph, which made me not wanting to ride it any faster. The owner pulled him self together and managed to read about 165 mph on the speedo, it was not without fear as he said
  • The Busa took a lot less fuel even though driven much harder. The Councours runned out of fuel, while there was still 5 quarts left in the Busa. The Councours is heavier and has more drag, which explains. It also has to be given more throttle at speeds where the Busa just need a minor twist to keep up
So the outcome is the Busa is by far better regarding engine performance and high speed handling. The Busa has much more braking power (after mods), but I would like to have an ABS also, as the Concours. The Concours has a MUCH better ergo and handling for driving at low and medium speeds. The Concours was equipped with two large panniers on rear and should probably be much better without them at high speeds.

Busa will probably see ABS as an option on the next redo.
The B-King will be back with some changes to make it more sport touring friendly.

Just my predictions..
