THEY (AMA) contacted simpson they said the shoe was never intended 4 motercycle racing so they couldnt back it as far as saftey. Its a driving shoe 4 race car.
Cant wear them @ AMA races anymore. There changing rules on gloves to.I have below wrist with padding @ palm+knuckles but I think they want kevlar now or least kevlar padding.

I bought a pair of HELD gloves a few years ago, but never wear them for racing. They have the sliders on the palm. I have a different pairI use at the track. Guess I will have to use em if I go someplace that is sanctioned

i made sure my gloves have "KEVLAR" stiched on them.....just in case i get some idiot in tech telling my gloves are not legal.

I think MPS has some AMA legal gloves. I will have to purchase some long gloves this year as I wear shorts on the street.

THERE REALLY NOT AS TOUGH AS PEOPLE SAY IN AMA
You figure they got couple to several 100 bikes 2 inspect.
Mine was 5 min+they even offerd me cold drink while I was waiting.
I did see them refuse a pass to A T/G BIKE because he had leathers not zipped 2gether.
They looked @ my lid but didnt inspect my leathers+gloves.

i guess pending on class on how hard they inspect your bike and gear?

Not true... Dean and Adam inspect everything at the first tech in regardless of class, that is not to say they do not miss something every once in awhile from being distracted.

But it does not stop there. In the Staging lanes Janie also looks at the gloves and boots and will say something to you if there is an issue.

Lastly, Jason the starter for AMA Dragbike, looks to see if your leathers are zipped together at the line and looks at your gloves and boots too. Alot of times a rider will tech with his buddies legal equipment and then try to race with his own inferior equipment.

Spend the money, buy good equipment and don't worry about not passing tech...

Right they wouldnt pass the short gloves.
THey dont allow plastic kill switch line.
The 1 pingle sells passes because it has nylon line inside the plastic line.
Last year @ Indy I was parked next guy who came off a funnybike @ 170mph
kill line broke bike continued on motor stayed on.lucky 4 him just broke wrist
considering what happened.Thats when they changed kill switch line rule.

I felt quite lame with my little flatbed trailer +my modest pit erea look that hauler.

yeah, but my worry was i get a "car" guy..not the regular motorcyle tech guys......

i figured I would make it as easy as possible, just in case....maybe the guy is having a bad day....

Nightflight,

The Funny Bike guy was Mark Paquette, I crew for him, his wrist was not broken, as a mater of fact nothing was broken. You are absolutely correct on the tether though, it snapped because it was the plastic kind and did not kill the engine. Because of this AMA changed the rules.

i went down at 145mph....my ZCustom Leathers probably saved my life, i had bruises for 6 weeks on my shoulder, and elbow from the body armor...that big an impact would have definately broken my elbow and shoulder/arm whatever...

i had the plastic slider on my boot ground down(even the metal screws holding them on) to the leather under....it also cost me a good helmet...

but i had no broken bones, and walked aways from it(really slowly)....not only did it save me on medical bills and a possible ambulance ride. i did not miss any days work over it.....

good gear, it seems to be expensive and a pain in the ass....but its worth it.

I HAVE ALPINESTAR 1 PIECE LEATHERS+A ICON LID+ALPINESTAR RIDING SHOES
I JUST NEED GOOD MOBILITY IN MY FINGERS.
SOME THOSE ARMOR GLOVES I WOULDNT LIKE.
I DID CUT THUMB OUT OF MY GLOVE AFTER TECH LAST AMA
I wanted my bare thumb on my button 4 delay box.

Thats me last year Indy ama
