Since there seems to be so many questions...

If everyone agrees that 4 into 2 into 1 is the most efficient and creates the biggest HP gains...why the heck does the most powerful bike on the planet come stock with dual exhaust? I'm confused!

Intersting Q. I believe Suzuki would have spared the expense of the extra pipe/can if it didn't work better for the way it was designed. It seems that some have dyno sheets proving the added HP, so WTF?

2 cans for me only thanks!

Keep in mind all these extra horsepower 4-2-1 exhaust cost between $800 and $1000. ... Perhaps Suzuki figured it would come out cheaper using a 4-2-2 vs. a more expensive 4-2-1 which would have added the the cost of the bike and would have placed it $1000 or so above the ZX-11 and Blackbird

just my thought on the subject

It may cost US $800+ for a 4-2-1 exhaust, but it sure wouldn't cost Suzuki that much. Mass production would drive that cost down considerably, so I think it's more an aesthetics thing myself...

Maybe emissions also?

Supposedly the 4-2-1-2 also produce more torque at mid-range RPMs, whereas the 4-2-1 brings on the power in the top of the powerband.
Just thoughts, I am no engineer.

I"m thinking aesthetics and/or emmissions

Hmmm...the torque factor seems like a likely motive. Isn't the torque difference between the busa and the ZX12 more than the difference between the HP numbers? And the ZX is 4-2-1 correct? Maybe the 4-2-1 is what enabled the ZX to compete top end wise but just couldn't muster the torque to compete in the quarter. Alot of interesting opinions!

I think Zook wanted to give the 'busa a little extra weight, you know, since it's on the light side..

who the heck knows what evil lurks in the minds of engineers.

My '03' Busa only weights 15 pounds more than my old 1991 GSXR750 and it was a lightweight in '91'. I think the Busa gets an undeserved bad label on the weight issue. I wish the Suzuki engineers were available to ask about the dual pipe design. I bet they had a good reason for it, like maybe to build the fastest stock bike on the planet???

come on now it has to do with aerodynamics if you have a bike that does 200 you want equal wind sheer so you go straight now a side force to make you turn slightly at least that would be my thought as well as for looks to equal it out .... you see the single eye getting closer then the two exhaust going away getting smaller from ya ..

Ok...since we are talking about dual exhausts - I need help.  Got a 2k4 Busa (LOVE IT!!!

).  I'm stuck here in Germany (military)
sad.gif
.... went to a "suzuki" dealership (german) asked them how long and how much it would take for them to install a new single exhaust yoshi full system with a power commander and the guy said:  "We don't do that, besides it's not good for your bike anyway (to go from 2 to a 1)".  Althought I assured him that it was perfectly common and that's why you install a power commander, the battle was lost already since I should never have had to "assure" the mechanic.  So my question is this - Can anyone here send me or instruct me step by step on how to install the P.C.?  I got a mechanic that can install the full system but have not talked to him about the P.C. yet.   A lot of my friends said that it should be quite simple.  I sure would appreciate it!

P.S.  I have the same problem with getting someone to install my Illumiglo Gauge Face from SRP.  Any ideas/suggestions/instructions are definitely welcome.

Bro,

If you buy a Powercommander, it comes with instruction videos that are very good. You won't need any advice.

As for exhaust, I will be happy to walk you through it. There several sites to help you also. Seriously, I am military overseas also, I just did my about a month ago. I bought one of the hardest to install exhausts there is, and I go it on in about 6 hours, including removing the PAIR valve. It is really more simple than you think. PM or email me, and I will help ya out in anyway you need.
