Slip on dual exhaust

G'day All,
Am just about to take delivery of my first BUSA. Its a gen1 2004 model with 25k on the clock. Very excited, it's bone stock and has been very well cared for by the previous owner. However it's not been ridden a lot. Road worthy and all in great order. I'm looking at swapping the end cans out for a pair of Yoshi slip ons....can anyone recommend if I need to install a Power Commander to facilitate better fueling. I was toying with the thought of a Yoshi 4 into 1 system (eBay from Coffs Harbour, a RS3 stainless system) but am unsure if this is the right way to go. No drag racing for its use, just a daily ride. Previous bikes have all been ZZR 1100S (a C model and D models) Also what manuals are the best for home maintence. Thanks in Advance.
Stu

The Factory Service Manual. Someone may be along to post a link to an electronic copy. I love paper myself.

You may want to do a full fuel service unless you know that the bike has had the tank full with preservative for 14 years.

Mine is still stock. I love the thought of a light 4-1. That Yoshimura is a great choice, no doubt!

If you can get a dyno (someone may be able to recommend a shop in your area) that would be good along with the Power Commander. Rob @Boosted Cycle Perf talks about lean areas in a stock bike. So the race exhaust will run even leaner and it is an excellent idea for all kinds of reasons to get a tune from a quality shop.

Are you in Australia? I am so jealous of all the riders who have that spectacular land to cross.

:welcome: to the show. Throw some slip-ons on if you want,no real need for PC. A bike can always use a good tune by a qualified tech for sure, but its not critical for a set of cans if you ask me. A full system like the Yosh you mentioned (awesome choice) would be a different story. At that time you'd prolly want to let her breath some more with a filter, maybe box mod etc. I dont know if anybody still messes with those PC's anymore,or if they just get the ECU flashed. Do all the required checks as mentioned above by HW,all yer hoses and fluids, tyres and brakes, etc.
I think this site still works to download a free manual...click here
Any questions just post up...there are some great members from Auz on here...enjoy.
Rubb.

Hi there,
Thanks for your reply. Yes I live in Australia, the bike was ridden ...unfortunately every 2nd or 3rd weekend (definitely not the best) but it's clean.... would do well for and ripping etc....But a good coolant and oil change
.

Thank you for the advice. I've just viewed a few videos regarding the airbox... and modifying it..

Hi mate, thanks for the advice. I will definitely look into a Dyno tune in my area. I live in Kuranda, Nth Qld (Australia)

Welcome mate from a another aussie from Melbourne We have a few aussies here Very good knowledgeable people on this site enjoy
Gooday to all another Aussie here from Melbourne.
Just reading up on all threads here regarding slip-ons for Hayabusa.
I purchased my first Busa 2014 in April last year just before lock down so haven’t had a chance to ride much. And just when the lockdown ended in November i had surgery to my left hand due a workplace injury so i still can’t ride...Another month maybe before i can squeeze the clutch.

Anyways back to the topic at hand.

Currently i have the Yoshis R77 duals and they are pretty good sound wise and looks, but i’ve always liked the Jardines.
I had them on my Gixa and they were awesome sound and looks.
So thinking of putting a set on the Busa.
Looking around online i noticed the M4 GP1 full system or the drag slip-ons and they sound very throaty if you have a look on youtube. Not sure how to attach a link in here.
What puts me off on the M4 full system is the 4-2-1 setup i prefer the dual look for the Busa.
So i would most likely go for dual slip ons.
Power doesn’t really interest me as we can never use the amount of power the Busa has to offer in Melbourne anyway.
It’s more the sound and looks that will decide it for me.

What are fellow Busa riders thoughts?
Should i stick with the Yoshis or go for a new look with the Jardines or the throatier sounding M4?

Thanks for your time.

This is more of a personal preference, as the modification has low impact on performance characteristics. The wonderful thing about slip ons is you can change your mind ... daily, if you want.

I had Yoshimura RS3 slipons on my 2000 and really liked the sound.

All you do to post a link is copy the url from the top of your browser and paste it in your message. It works for videos or anything else. There's no need to insert any tags before and aft the url.

I'm not sure I'm familiar with he GP1. It appears that's the full system version of the Retro Drag slipons. As far as slipons go, the Retro Drags have been my top pick since I got into this 12 years ago. They are very loud so be aware of that. I doubt they're as loud as some of the race full systems but probably getting close. They are also extremely light in weight and in my opinion, they are about the coolest looking muffler you can find although I really like a shorty the best.

Thanks to all for their feedback.
Yes from what i’ve seen and heard on youtube vids the M4 GP are loud but i’d rather take my chances then getting side swiped by some driver that didn’t “see or hear” me.
And as HayaWakened says above i can easily change them over if i need to go through for a RWC all because some cop reckons it’s too loud.
I’m still a few months away from riding again anyway due to a bunged up left hand.
I’ll post some pics here once i decide to purchase and fit them.
Till then safe riding to all.✌

Delkevic makes a 4 into 2 header so you can upgrade your slips on to a full unrestricted exhaust if you have cats installed
