Slip ons for the Gen2. Any ones to stay clear of? Suggestions?

Years ago when I had my Gen1, I added Devil Carbon slip-ons. It was one of the best modifications I made to that bike, just improved the sound and shed some wait. There were no repercussions at all, and not a hint that the bike needed any form of fuel management adjustment. When I changed my exhaust on the ZX14 however, all hell broke loose. Kaw has an ignition cut out at a certain RPM that produced a pop on decel no matter what. Only the addition of a TRE002 corrected that issue.
I would like to put some slip ons on the new Gen2, but do not want to change ANYTHING else. No TREs, no Powercommanders, etc. Am I safe to go ahead? Any one had any bad experiences with any certain slip-ons? I don't want to spend a ton either. If it gets near the full exhaust price, I'll likely hold out entirely.
All I want is a bit of volume to let the cagers know I am there. The weight reduction would be nice as well, but not a necessity.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks-

I have Vance & Hines CS1 slipons and have no issues. No other changes have been made. I got them off eBay for almost 1/2 price in like new condition.

Thanks Bret!

I trust they sound pretty good as well?

I love them. Nice deep tone but never annoying. My best advice would be meet up with other members here or anyone with a Busa so you can hear as many as possible firsthand.

Alienhead sounds fabulous but a tad loud for me.
Akra sounds very good and not obnoxious.
Yosh leans to the quiet side but good tone.
Two Brothers sound great at idle and scream up high.

These are all my opinion and my perception. Good luck on your search:thumbsup:

Love my yosh's. Mello some would say quiet sound, great looks and no popping on decel and no mods.

Unfortunately it seems most slip-ons are right around the same price as the same makers full systems, unless you get them used. From a pure hp stand point slip-ons aren't the best choice. But if you're fine with the power you have now, and just want to drop some weight and get better looks and sound, they're not a bad way to go. I went with a set of Viper slip-ons on sale for a cheap way to try out the slip on approach on my gen1. For me it wasn't enough, I needed more power so I ended up putting a full system on. But the gen 2 is a very strong running machine stock, you should be able to run slip-ons alone with no other mods and be quite happy, if you're not in it for every last pony. If you have any popping at all the marble mod (plugging the hose from the pair valves to the air box) should fix it. Completely cured my popping busa. Your right tho, my 14 needed the same tre to stop the popping.

I've had too many projects over the years, my last being installing the turbo kit on my 14. I'm done with living next to my bikes with tools in my hands. Like the Honda commercial says "I just wanna ride" lol. My next hyperbike will get slip-ons only.....I've become lazy in my old age

Gen1 bolt-on mufflers will fit the gen2 on the opposite sides.
NOT slipons, bolt-ons are just that, the muffler bolts to the factory midpipes.
The midpipe bolt pattern between the two gens is a mirror image, so they must go on the other side(decal or sticker emblem will be inside). The bolt-ons must also have sliding muffler hangers(where they bolt to the passenger peg), most aftermarket ones do, stock doesn't work since the muffler mount hole is in a permanent location.
reason being is that the muffler hanger is a few inches further up the muffler on the gen1.
This is a cheap way for looks and sound, as well as getting rid of around 12lbs per side.
Gen1 parts are cheaper and plentiful.
I bought a cheap set of gen1 Two Brothers off ebay a few years ago, cut them down for looks and put them on my gen2.
They looked and sounded good(I've since added full exhaust).
Here's a few old pics.
Some of the slipons from a gen1 can also be made to work on a gen2. They fit on the same side on both gens, but must have the sliding muffler hangers still though.
There are also several threads on how to cut down the stock mufflers, they look and sound better too.
Just something to think about.:beerchug:

Just installed Brock's Alien Head slip-ons on my '11 Busa and, yep, they sound fantastic! However, I've a little issue with the look, a fit issue, if you will. I'll post pics tomorrow to show what I mean ....

Here's what I'm referring to - the right pipe is tilted in at the bottom quite a bit more than the left. I briefly considered removing the right and trying to twist / modify the mounting bracket to make it match but then thought better of it. They should be the same already and I'd sure hate to bust the existing welds:

You will have that with 99% of all slip ons with the busa. It has to do with the bend under the left footpeg. The right side doesn't need to bend there..

You will get used to it, and eventually it won't bother you.

Yosh is the only ones that seem to address this issue, and they are still not perfect..

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I may go with some titanium Yosh cans. Look nice, and I've had a lot of success with Yoshimura in the past. Big Red...what you are referring to about working on them is exactly what I mean. Tuning isn't as fun now with all the computer assisted stuff, and the bikes, though restricted run so well off the showroom floor I just can't see messing with them much. Getting the 14 to where I could live with the heat took a lot of money and a couple dyno runs to dial it all in. Don't want any part of that on the new Busa!

If you get the Yoshi's, remember there are right and left side mounting brackets, they are marked and they are different. Both sides should look the same when you finish the install. I know because I did it wrong the first time. Who needs instructions?
