They called me earlier, didnt leave a message, so I called back, and thats how I found out who it was. Thought it was weird. Wonder what they want with me of all people?.....What do they even do?

I think I pissed the lady off when she asked my name, and I responded with my name, followed by "and who exactly is this?"

she responded "The Federal Trade Commission"

"........Who the hell is the federal trade commission????"

"we're a goverenment agency sir....someone will return your call...click"
she sounded mad that i didnt know who they were. lol.

You been doing insider trading lately? Did that stock tip from "uncle Phil" turn out to be too good to be true? Watch your back Mister! The FTC has eyes everywhere!!!

and you just got charged $35,000 for a 1 minute call to some scammers in Africa

Well been nice knowing you... Whatever you've been doing, has been found out.

Could be that you have an investment that either gained or lost considerable amounts lately? Do you use a broker who trades for you...if he made some trades for you just before a major stock flux they might be wanting to know why this trade was done. Something happened somewhere with money and your name is somehow attached to it. Best to ask for a call back number and verify the ladies name with the FTC. To many scammers out there trying to scare folks into giving financial info...so be careful.

probably right.. seems odd anyone would call you from the FTC.. unless you are a shady character!! i trade under an alias, with a fake address, from random coffee shops an hour or more from my house and i have only a gophone that is registered in a Canadians name and that phone is only chipped and powered when I need to use to.... i wear a baseball cap at all times and I never, ever look up to the sky. ill never post a picture of my face on the net either. i wear multiple layers of clothing so I can change clothing on the move in areas that are monitored through cameras. i pay for everything with cash and ensure that I have atleast $2000 of USD and Mexican Pesos on my person at all times.... ... no one can track my shadiness.

I hope they dont catch you brother!

sounds like the new version of that lawyer scam as all goverment agencys are required to provide information on who they are where they work and what office they represent. (lawyer scam is they call you tell you you about to be arrested for some type of financial mistake and ask for 400-900 bucks to keep you from getting arrested...based in florida...google the number to get your answers of who they really are)

Make and wear a tin foil hat, keeps them from calling .........

Seriously, sounds strange they would call you. No letter?

i have no money tied up anywhere.....no stocks no nothing.

just reversed look uped the phone number and it came up as a landline from Mount vernon, NY

the number is 914-371-6262

Yoiu probably called back someone who dialed a wrong number and got you. That's why there was no message left. The FTC response when you asked who they were was to blow you off. Someone they didn't know calling wanting to know who they are....

Play nice. I have dealt with them in the past. you don't want to joke with them when they call back. Although if they never sent out any letter it seems strange that they would call at all.

On a side note...I watched on the news just this morning that you can not trust the numbers any longer that it appears scammers call from. There is a device they are using that shows a different "called from" number and you never know it~!~

They suggested that if you get an odd call to ask if you can call the number right back~!!~

Never know...maybe it wasn't the FTC to begin with...

I just called the number for you from my office here in Austin, TX. The caller ID would show up as a generic call back number from my company and if the person called it back they would get lost in an automated nightmare (I work for a health insurance HMO :) ). The number rang several times and then a voicemail system picked up and an automated voice said "please leave a message at the tone" - beep. I hung up. ???

You know- '371' is a sprint number in Texas.. wonder if it is there as well.. i just skyped it for fun (cant talk.. only listen) and i got the same as Kristin.
