After spending the day with Jet-Li earlier this year and seeing those wonderful beach photos of myself I promised myself I would make a change. Semi and I have jokingly challenged each other to do better. Also, I have became friends with a couple of MC's friends that I met at his retirement. We are all working together in some form on FB. I feel I have made some great changes since the summer, especially with Juli being out of country for the last 7 weeks I have been able to focus.

So far, I have lost over 30 pounds since I started at 205 and currently at 172. Probably around 20 to 25 since Shawns retirement. BF is 16% or less, will measure again this weekend.

Anyone want to share some success stories or need support? Here is a beach photo of this summer. I was at 195 to 200. Way overweight by CDC standards. And yes, I need some sun!

Freeweights, speedbag and 100lb bag, pushups/pullups, and various cardio since 14(now 36).
Bought a Bowflex Revolution about 5 years ago...best machine I ever bought.
The ability to chance motions and directions at any time, and even during the same exercise, makes a big difference.
I have the Perfect Pushup and Perfect Pullup also, and they work great.
The flexibility from martial arts helps a lot too.
I do a combination of various things several times a week, even if only for a few minutes.
Constant change to your workout keeps your muscles growing. The same old workout gets stale around 2 weeks and your body becomes used to it. Variety is the secret, and motivation can be the hardest part.
Sounds like you've done a lot in a short time.
Good luck with it. The wife will think you have a girlfriend:laugh:

Diet is a big part of getting/staying in shape as well. Good on you for taking action instead of just shaking your head when looking in the mirror.

Cyclist here, keeping the miles up, keeps the weight down. Use to be top competitive, but now all the old man does is try and hang in the bunch with the young guys hoping not to get dropped.

Put in between 10 to 18 hours a week, train with a group, resting pulse is 46. Healthy body is a healthy mind. Finished last race 3rd, second last race 4th.

Pic below, riding second from front trying to shake the bunch.

Sadly fitness levels are at a stage where I enjoy a 60 mile ride through purty NC country more on the cycle than the Busa.

For weight I use myfitnesspal.com

Willem, I use the same app. I love it, I log everything and know exactly where I am or where I need to be.

I'm at my MEPS sign in weight. Senior year in high school I stepped on the scale to enlist in the delayed enlistment program in January of 1983...weighed in at 150. Today, I weighed in at 150. No processed foods and a wife that makes that happen...It doesn't happen by accident...good for you for working on it TwoTone!

Not all of us can go back to there MEPS weigh-in weight. I came in at 127 in 1990. With my current age and a moderate amount of handsomeness, 182 is perfect for me with 18% BF. All of the diet products in the world won't help you the way eating right and exercising will. You body is a machine and by allowing that machine to do it's job will make you happier to see the pounds come off.

Exactly how it has been working for me. I run a 5k every other day and work out at the gym on the days I dont run. I watch what I eat, but but I am not really dieting.

you're doing much better than me bro  i have been around way too much good food lately with Thanksgiving and now Christmas coming up...i consider it a success if i can just maintain during the holidays and not let it creep back up! keep at it, it will definitely be worth it :beerchug:

IIRC, I was 180-ish back in 1987 when I joined the Navy at age 25. Now 52 years old and currently weigh 185 (70 inches tall) and can still smoke some of the young 'uns in our twice a year fitness tests. At one point, I went overboard and shrank to 150-ish with a 30-inch waist (3 miles daily, 12 miles on Fridays)..people thought I was sick and dying. FWIW, I still fit in my uniforms from circa 1999 (waist is now 34 inches, used to be 30).

BTW, I like to eat (have a sweet tooth) and refuse to deprive myself so I willingly pay for my indiscretions via daily cardio (10K meters on rower or 5K on treadmill). But being in the medical field, I do watch what I eat so I will grow old without health issues.

Congrats, keep up the good work.

I wish I could exercise but I've got bad feet due to diabetes.
Don't affect my bike riding though.

I started taking weight gainers and working out like a freak 8 years ago. I'm 5'10 and only weighted 125 pounds. I was able to get up to 175lbs and was ripped. Got a new job and quit working out because I was working over 70 hours a week. Last Christmas I weighted in at 240lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!! I said to myself, that's it.!!!! Started eating right and got back in the gym. I lost 50 pounds (now at 190) and feel great. What helped me the most was downloading the "lose it" and "full fitness" apps to track food and workouts!

Oh! And I don't do cardio. This was all done by lifting and eliminating all the junk I used to eat. No fried food, soft drinks or crazy amounts of carbs.

Very cool. I have grown to really like cardio, running has become something I miss if I dont do it. I am only lifting to define muscle groups and be cut. My abs are well defined, not quite the 6 pack yet, but getting there. I hope to transition to a maintenance plan next week if I reach my goal this weekend.

Way to go my oRg Brother.... you alajwri[ motivated me (Ooops typo, dorito's chip hit keyboard) to get back to the gym. All joking aside you have seriously encouraged me to get back in shape for my health, the ride, and summer! Thanks for the inspiration and gratz on a job well done.

im on a see food diet.....see food eat it. 235 lbs but i am also 6'3" tall

Congratulations on your accomplishments so far, James. I wish my progress has been as good as yours. My weight has been up and down but at least I have it going down again. All I'm doing is running. The worst part is my diet and eating habits. All of the running makes me HUNGRY!.. I have to get over using eating as stress relief and entertainment. I think once I conquer that, I'll have it made.

Although I've slacked off, I was running 3-4 days a week. 2-3 miles on weekday mornings and 5-8 on weekends. If I run a half marathon on the weekends I usually slack off for recovery during the week following.
I've completed 20 half marathons this year. This weekends was canceled but I have 4-5 more on the schedule in the next 30 days. In October 6 of those were in 3 consecutive weekends with each weekend having an event in 2 different states. That was a tough 16 days. On Dec 1, I completed my first full marathon while recovering from a sinus infection. I was not sure I'd even make the first 6 miles but the venue was situated where it would be easy for me to stop almost anywhere though the event. I'll be running at an event on new years eve and new years day. We'll complete a 5K and then a half on each day. Then 7 days later I head to Florida to do a 5K, 10K, Half, and a full in 4 days. After that it is back to half marathons and working on speed. You sure can't say I have speed now, finishing upright and without injury are my only current goals.

I'm still 50lbs over from where I should be. My 2014 goal is to start focusing on modifying my diet, continuing the cardio, and start a small bit of cross training. I'm still down 25-30lbs from my high, but have plenty of work left to do.
