Some questions on Milege and Reliability

Ok all..its official..i'm gunnin for a 2k busa...but i would like a little info on some things. Now i seen some of the minor probs this bike has had in its first year incarnation (clutch seizure, power cut outs, the infamous cam chain tensioner prob). Thing is i would like to know at what milage intervel did these..or any other probs occur at for you(how many miles on the odometer did ya have when the prob occured). Wether it was a fairing bolt that popped out or a chain busting please tell me what problem(s) you experienced and at what milege interval it happened. I want to know as much as i can so i know what to watch out for when i get this bad boy. That and any tips you can tell me on what to check over that the factory and/or shop builders forgot to check (ie Loose engine bolt causing a small oil leak..etc.) and how to exactly remedy them (to loctite..or Not to loctite..that is thy question) would be greatly apprecieated. And to anyone who has sky high miles on their busa's (8000, 10,000..or higher) i'd like to know what you do to keep it in top form. Do you use synthetic or Dino oil? Replace anything with stronger parts to make the machine more durable? Basically what i'm asking on this part is how i can make the bike more reliable. The bike is already as fast as the divorce papers Hilary is gonna serve to Bill clinton when his term runs out (she can't divorce him now, shes too busy runnin the country), so even though i may do slips ons, and the air box mod, i think i'll leave the bike alone in performance and just concentrate on durability. I love riding and reliability is a Very important factor. So please...any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanx again

Ride safe,

speeddemon,
I've got over 2500 on a Blue Y2K. Only issue has been a fairing bolt. I bought 2x 5,6, and 7mm from dealer for under $10. Everything else has been gravy.

looks to me u've got most of the bike charactoristics covered .... theres no telling when the potential problems will occur on what mileage ... basically it all depends on ur luck and the way u ride ur bike .... especially the breaking-in period.

A good engine oil selection is most crucial for this baby ... clutch fluid turns dark and mushy before 1000 miles, suggest u get the fluid changed to a better one once u get ur bike, i did mine myself with the help of some posts in here. Drive Chain stretches fast during the break-in period too ... tension up to spec. Get the service manual(www.motocom.com), read up ... get a torque wrench and tighten up all bolts to spec in manual. Some adjustments need to be done to the suspension according to ur riding style and weight to make the ride on the baby smoother.
Cam chain tensioner needs a periodic check if u intend to leave the OEM one on ... some of the guys have problems with it and some don't but if u got the money and u need the extra sense of security i suggest u get the manual tensioner that some of the guys in here have done(Billet Tensioner). Other problems aren't too significant if u know what to do ..... let me know if u need other info.

Busa owners are all blessed~

I wracked up 5K miles so far, and the only moments of excitement, other than when I twist the wrist, is the few false neutrals I experienced. I had two or three of those, but they all occurred within the first 600 miles of operation. Not even a peep since then.

3500 miles on my oo blue baby and nothing wrong here--although talk has made me consider getting an r1 for a sound proof bike --i reconsidered when i realize im on the fastest bike out there---till next year maybe!!!!!!!!!

4k on my fast copper one no problems.not even a cut out one.I use regular gas.and Dino oil as you put it and I am hard on my bike Drag race almost every weekend. That is why the mileage is low.I wonuld not even worry about it find a good Suzuki Tech and Dealer buy the bike and the Suzuki extended warranty and don't worry just ride I never worry about my bike.

'99 &'00 Busas are the fastest bikes ever! Next year they will be limited. The ZX-12 is limited this year.....try as they could, Kawa just couldn't get it to go any faster.

Hey, never trade a bike cause it has a few quirks. Those are personality traits. If all Harley owners traded because of a few flaws no one would own one...right?
The only thing I have had so far was the missing fairing bolt, which I found later in the tool kit, & the clutch fluid is turning dark. Fun factor is 10+.

Have 2000 blue Busa.
Ride hard on highways, also do alot of stoplight to stoplight city driving.
No problems, seems like it gets faster and faster.
Bought service manual; do all checks and maintenance as recommended. Like I said No problems.

The problems you hear about are a small percentage. ALL types bikes have there problems.

Go buy your Busa, take care of it, and you'll love it...Remember..Blue is really the fastest.

9500 miles ,fuel filter problem and false nutrals first 1kmiles,missing o-ring in fuel pump.No problems since.Run 10-40Mobil1 synthetic bike oil the stuff rocks! The 2brothers slip-ons give it a nice rumble.

1200mi on a blue Y2K. Not one problem. Not a bolt out of place. If there becomes a problem, I'll be sure to mention, with this by-the-book break-in period.

I`ve owned three busa`s and NO PROBLEMS PERIOD...it about killed me to sell one ..they are that great of a bike...buy it and be HAPPY....
