 Ok people who knows about this stuff for sure ...

The other day I met a guy on a BMW LT 1200 ( nice ) that tells me about 6 mos ago he got tagged at 85mph in a 55mph , on a country road nobody around... Fine was $485 plus $125 traffic school fee. He also says if you are caught doin over 100mph you are goin to Jail & bike is impounded!

I dont want to discuss the proprioty of speeding... most of us here do it. I love to hit the triple digits but allways way out in the boonies and try to go where there arent even any side roads ... still I realize the dangers risks and so forth. Heck, On the ride to Laguna with the North west group we sped most of way but only hit 3 digits a few times.

So that being said, is it up to the officer whether u are riding in the back of his or her squad car? Has this happened to anyone here or a close friend? Sheese! Kinda depressing to think about the high fines or losing my busie.

 Hello Hawaii----Lot's of luck involved..when speeding.......Boonies is best...early Am..helps
I thought one time "This is It" i am toast...He said to me..I do not want to have too scrape your body off the the road--so slow down..man i was happy..riding an FZR600 at 8k and above when i went by him while he was parked in the bushes..never even had to show any reg. no nothing...
woohoo....just a warning..woohoo again..on the Busa you have to be extra carfeful ya know..:D

Yeah, it's generally officer discretion. Sometimes speeding becomes reckless driving when you go a given MPH above the posted limit. That's when the ride usually comes in. Since reckless is a more serious and suspendable offense most departments require a ride to jail and a bond.

Again, most of the time it's still officer discretion unless department policy dictates otherwise. I know Georgia law allows officer discretion on whether to arrest or not on traffic violations except for DUI.

One of our traffic guys got a Harley at 91 in a 45 with laser yesterday and let the guy go with citations.

Another note... It seems that you think you lose your bike altogether when it's impounded. In some cases that's true but most times it means you just have to pay an impound fee to get it back. I know NYPD was seizing vehicles in drag race stings. You can also have yer ride siezed for certain types and/or amounts of drugs. Never heard of havin' one siezed for speeding/reckless though.

Even so, you can't imagine how much damage a towing service can do to a bike. I try to avoid towing folks' vehicles if I can. I know that the towing company is responsible and would have to fix their ride, but why subject people to the extra hassle? Even on DUI I try to get another driver for the vehicle or I secure it and leave it on the scene if the driver want's to accept liability for anything that might happen to it on the roadside if it's left.

The only ones that I tow religiously are the ones with no insurance. They have to bring me proof of valid insurance to get their rides back. I've seen the nightmare people can be put through when hit by an uninsured motorist. Fug 'em.

Speaking of lasar, shut down the po po again! Accidently stumbled onto a speed trap the other day.... Had about six cop cars lined up, one officer with a radio/clipboard, & a female shooting lasar! Didn't see them until it was too late.... Then, the lasar jammer started screaming and I reacted quickly by getting on the brakes. No ticket, didn't get stopped, just had to smirk when I saw the lasar operator with a puzzled look on her face and the gun now pointed at the ground. Not sure, but from the look on her face she'd never been Jammed before..............

I'd really like to see a jammer work. The laser companies say that laser detectors/jammers don't work unless you aim directly at the unit, but they wanna sell us the lasers.  ;) Anyone around me got a jammer and willing to "jam" me? Not asking you to speed, just to ride by a few times at a steady speed and jam the laser with a jamming device. I'm just curious as to whether or not they work. The results could be interesting, one way or the other.

I'd have to check one out to do it though. I don't keep laser or radar in my car. Don't care to work traffic. It's a waste of time. I'm out tryin' to catch thieves.

I did some testing for a manufacture. Some of the first units installed on a motorcycle which involved some extensive work arounds! But, so far all the test we have conducted show about a 98% success rate..... Only one gun gives the jammer fits at close range (less than a couple hundred feet) the Stalker! This also depends on the size of the vehicle being clocked. Your right its sometimes hard for the jammer to see the laser depending on the distance between the target and gun! But on a bike using both recievers up front its overkill........ Wished you were closer to Ks, I'd gladly test your gun against my jammer! So far I've got experience with three different depts. using two different kinds of jammers. Both parties can learn alot from the encounter............

My best bud got clocked doing 148mph in his bmw on his way to Vegas. all he got was a ticket for speeding and got his license suspended for a year... and of course a fine of $900 or so. no jail time.

i guess he was lucky..

I wouldn't call "$900 ticket for speeding, 1 year license suspended" lucky!...

Lucky was being stopped by a blonde cop and she .... ooops, almost forget this a family oriented forum.

Thanx guyz.

Hey Bug, what kind of Jammer u got and how much $?

Bullet, U can check out radarbusters.com lots of info ... there.

Ephrin, how are ya? and where did your buddy get tagged, Cal or Nev?

Running a Bel LP-904 on the bike & a Escort ZR3 on the truck! Cost, search on line to find the best price. I think retail for the ZR3 is around $500 and $350 for the Bel.... If you search you can find a better deal! Installation is pretty straight forward.
