hey everyone, new guy here. I bought a new busa oct 05. i decided to make my first real mod. i bought a rumble imports cyclops undertail. installed the SOB and was checking wiring blew a fuse. replaced the fuse and noticed i had it wired wrong still lic plate light was brake, no brake light. I re-wired and all the lights , dash lights, gauges appear fine. I went for a ride and my speedometer jumps up and down like the tach. after a few minutes it comes down a little. It will then bounce around aimlessly between like 50 and 60 when i'm going like 55. After 10 or 12 miles it seemed ok. My bike is also running a little rough on start up, never did this before. Once i get her warmed up everything seems fine. anyone heard of anything like this? is my ecu fried?

yeah during wiring i think i let the hot and ground touch. it blew the signal fuse. i replaced it and all the light worked fine. just the speedometer thing.

Loose connection? Check the wiring harness to the instruments, maybe something go stretched somewhere?

I think DAB hit it on the head, otherwise it just wouldn't come on at all. Is it all the power items or just the speedometer? If just the speedometer check the battery connections and the connection on the left side of the bike just under the tank a green clip if I remember correctly.

Thanks DAB! I checked all my connections and none seemed loose. I pushed them all in tight, the grren one by the fuse box i think was the culprit. My speedometer is now working like it should.

Hey...glad to see another from Louisville on the board.  I just took my 05 as well to S&S to get the same problem worked on.  It started when I put in the new undertail as well.  They checked everything under the sun and even replaced the speedo cluster ($600 part if not under warranty) and it helped a lot but didn't cure it but they called it fixed.  I think I'm going to buy a new Rec/Regulator.  I have had this conversation before with other electrically skilled people and they feel that the Rec/Reg is the main culprit.  After I buy a new tire I'll order a new Rec/Reg ($185) and try that.  See ya on the street in the 'Ville.

Hey Fasenf, I was just at S & S on Sat. 5-20. By the way my damn speedometer is doing it again. I Thought i would check my connections again. Does or did yours get better after driving for 10 mins or so?

By the way I was talking to a guy, Tom, on Sat at S & S who has a 2000 Busa. He said his does'nt have high speed govenor. I looked at his speedometer and it registers 220 mph. Tom, 48, said he has been over 200 several times.

Yah..After about 10 minutes above idle speed it just disappears. With the old speedo it would idle and bounce to 15,20 even 25 just sitting still. I put about 120 miles on today and it was good all day. I stopped probably a half dozen times and the speedo blipped a little after I took off after 2 restarts. I'm not that concerned with it..I was at first but affects the bike absolutely 0. The 99's and some of the early 2000 bike came w/o the speed limiter. Those guys have completely rocked them out with TREs, exhaust, powercommanders, and reflashed ECU's. I've only stretched mine out to 160 and it pulled it like a freight train...had to scrub off speed before I plowed into the back of a mini van.
