Sprocket change

I recently purchased a 2000 Busa which has had a 43T sprocket installed in place of the 40T standard.

Can I change it back to a standard 40T without replacing the chain as well?

What effect will that have on the position the rear wheel needs to be in? I am assuming that with the smaller standard sprocket it will need to be adjusted back.

I have not had much experience with chains and sprockets as my previous motorcycles have been shaft driven.

Thanks for your help and advice.

You won't need to change the chain assuming it's in good shape. I just switched to a 43t and the chain fits fine. Going the other way will be the same. The tire will sit a little rearward of the present position but no biggie.......

Not a problem just make sure to inspect chain and both sprockets for wear. If they have more than 5000 miles on them it would be a good idea to replace both sprockets and the chain. I have heard of people getting only 1,500-2,000 miles out of a chain also have heard of getting as much 15,000-20,000 miles. It all depends on how hard you ride and how well you maintain your chain. Clean, lube and adjust as nessesary and you should get between 5,000 and 10,000 miles.

my last chain i got 12000 miles out of it .. but i dont drag either... then went to did chain. should not have to change chain unless time to replace anyway.
