Sprocket Question

I am wanting to get more torque from my busa. I was told to change the rear sprocket and increase the teeth by six. Wondering if this is right and if I can use the stock chain. I would like to have a chrome one. If anyone knows where I can get one and how many teeth I need, please let me know.

You are wasting money getting a chrome sprocket, it'll be peeled and eaten off at the teeth and look bad. The best gearing for torque with a stock chain is 16 in the front and a 42 in the rear. I couldn't imagine going up 6 teeth!! I just have the 16 in the front for now and it pulls like crazy. I am considering going back with the 17 in the front and a 43 on the rear. The stock front has a rubber spacer and is easier on your drivetrain. I think there is a OEM Suzuki with 16t, not sure if it will fit the Busa though, going to check this morning. Anyway, hope I helped.

Stock front and 43 rear is the best in my opinion and the stock chain fits fine
some people recommend changing the sprockets and chain as a set, I didn't and have had no problems

I did the same with the 17/43. I like the combination for the style of riding I do. Added a yellow box at 17% to adjust the speedometer and odometer. Reads right on now. I also didn't change the chain but only had 2000 miles on bike. Use a steel sprocket if changing. I used an AfAM and am pleased with the result.

Thanks Now I need to know where to get one at. I want something that looks good though. I have the all black 2002 with chrome rims. Need something to go good with it.

Vortex makes some good lookin' rear sprockets but I don't know anything about how good they are. Might be aluminum, too. Might look into them as an option to see if they have what you want. Get feedback on the quality before you buy 'em though. Don't base your purchase on my post here or the looks!

Those Vortex or Aluminun and they don't last long.

I think sprocket specialist makes a good steel one, but not sure. It's gonna be hard to find one that is going to have the "bling" and last. Might just wanna go with a chromed one, just don't expect much time from it. Not trying to be pessimistic just realistic.

16/42 will og with a stock chain...And will make you say "Hell Yeah"...

Yhe 16/42 is your best bet for off the line with stock motor.  Don't go with anything other then Steel.  Steel coated witll get you some good looking sprockets.  nickel, chrom Molly etc.

16/42 and a yellow box to correct the speedo error. Try it you'll like it!

I think I am going to go with the 16-42, now I just need to know where to get it. Please post a website on where to get it.

I'm about to be ready to change mine out.
The only Chromium that I have found was AFAM with Nickle coated steel in the back AFAM. I went through 3 Sprocket Specialists and have not eaten up the AFAM. Using EK zvk chain.

16t on the front and stock on the rear, great ggiddy up and reasonable gas milage, which was important to me because i still do long distance trips!

Reading through the post I gather some great info, my question is for my style of riding so thanks for the info.

1) Love the canyon carving and i would like to have better drive coming out of the curves.

2) I still want to have a great top end what gearing will give me this?

3) I was thinking dropping 1 tooth in the front (17f 40r stock) what would a 16f 40r do?

4) Will I need a yellow box if so how can I purchase one, and will this effect the pcii and atre?
