Stand Trick

here's a dumb question...

I have a rear stand for my beloved, but it's a serious pain in the a## and a risky endeavor to put it up on there it seems. The one time I had the nerve to do it, I held the bike up by the hump and tried to get the stand "hooked" on the spools and then once convinced it was relatively stable, pushed down with my foot. It was a balancing act and seemed pretty risky.
What's the secret?

Is the grab bar installed? If not, there is a hand hold on the lower left side at the sub frame. The best method is to line the stand up with the spools, balance the bike and push down slowly. You will get the hang of it. Get some one to help you the first few times until you get comfortable. This is the main reason I did the hump mod, so my grab bar is always available.

Take the hump off and hold on to the crossbar (where the latch mechanism is) to stabilize the bike.

I install the grab bar, only for putting the bike on the stand, then I borrow a neighbor , taking it off the stand is easier, put the kickstand down first, hold the grab bar and set her down easy.. good luck

Line the hooks up with the spools on the stand before you do anything. Hold onto the grab rail as you put pressure on the left side and lift up the left side first with the stand until the bike is upright and there is pressure on both hooks. Then hoist the bike with both hooks. It's a doddle after some practice.

It is kind of an unnerving endeavor the first few times but with practice it will become much less stressful. I imagine you could get a front wheel chock if your particularly uncomfortable with it, but you'll get used to it once you do it a few times. Just take the hump off, as suggested earlier, or hold it by the grab bar.

i never thought that people had trouble with this but i guess since ive been doin it so long its just like second nature to me, but mos important thing to do is to get it standing straight up before u try to lift it using the stand, imma post afew pics, in a few minutes.

i did have spools, but either i guess one feel or or someone needed it more than i did ,

I have hump without grabrail or mod. I stand on the right rear side of my bike, putting my leg against the exhaust and stand the bike up by pulling it against me (hand usually on the left side turn signal for grip), using my body to keep from pulling it over too far. Once level I balance it until I get the spools/stand lined up (catch); then i can grab te stand which keeps the bike level until I can get behind it for leverage to lift rest of way up on stand. Reverse to take off stand. Viola!

I use a peice of wood that I have a stand cup screwed to that I place the kick stand on so bike is almost straigh but leaning slightly. I then place my stand under the spools and litf stand slowly to engage both sides evenly and lift. Putting bike back down is the worst for me. I do not use the block for lowering. I start lowering slowly grabing hump making sure bike leans left onto kickstand. Make sure kickstand is down!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried it a few times this afternoon. The combination of the piece of wood under the kickstand and removing the hump to get a grip really made it a breeze. Great suggestions!!

what i did being 135 lbs and 5'5" was to buy 4 porch swing hooks..screwed into ceiling studs in the garage and use 4 cargo tiedown straps..hook the straps on the handlebar grips..stand bike up straight and tighten straps...now bike stands all by it self with no way of tipping over...now put on rear stand...when done take off rear stand..sit on bike, release straps..

It would be a lot easier if you use the piece of wood when putting her back down so she won't go down that far. What I do is put my left hand on the right side of the bike to pull her a little to the left and lower her slowly. And yes!!! Make sure the kickstand is down!!!!!!
