Ok 7k miles and the starter fails to disengage.... I went through and checked everything, as well as the busa boards, and came to the conclusion that it was symptomatic of the busa ---its one great failure.
I called suzuki America and they were pretty cool about it, evidently they are well aware of the problem. I also mentioned that I thought there was a recall on it and gave him the date I believed the recall was issued 12/10/02.
After a brief conversation he told me to take it to a suzuki dealer and talk to the service manager about it and issued me a service request number, which to give to the service manger. Since its out of warranty he said he couldn't promise that they would repair it free of charge but informed me that sometimes they provide a "Good Will" repair at no charge to the customer.
When promted he also mentioned that there was an upgraded starter and starter clutch for the "BEAST".
Lets hope the repair goes as smooth as the conversation went. I advise all of you who have not switched over to the heavier starter package to consider doing so. You never know where you might be when you starter knocks off. Mine went without much warning a couple of clanks and then nothing.. The only saving grace was that it was at the end of the Myrtle beach bike rally and i was about to load the bike on the trailer to head home... Its a ggod thing i wasn't on the road --- especially since I was planning a cross country trip to begin June 7.
I hate it, but better now than stuck in the middle of the desert trying to get a tow truck
