starter issues due to high compression

Hello everyone I recently had my valves serviced on my 2003 Hayabusa. Then my started went out however I heard the starter clutch seems to be an issue with the first gen busas but I also heard it was the 2002 and below. I ordered a new starter and my battery is new as well. The mechanic mentioned because the starter may have been on its last leg that with the new compression the engine has that it must of gave out. Does that seem likely any advice or ideas or has anyone experienced this before?

The state of the starter motor totally depends on a lot of factors . . how many miles on the bike?
If the bike has had hard starting issues in the past, this will prematurely wear the starter brushes out.
The idea that the starter will wear and die because the compression has increased a little is dubious and impossible to prove one way or another.
The starter clutch got upgraded gears in 2002 from memory, may be a little earlier. Your 2003 model should be ok.
I have a 1999 Gen 1 with 155,000kms on the engine, head has never been off, compression is 210psi on all 4 cyls.
The starter clutch is the original and never been upgraded. I've never had a problem with it, starts normally every time, but that's just my experience, others may have failed as it has been reported by many early Gen 1 owners.
My starter motor is the original, never had new brushes either.
As Sixpack said, starters go bad, it happens.

Welcome along, we are always happy to help with good advice from highly experienced mechanics and techs.... but in return, please introduce yourself on the new members page and post up some pics of your ride.

When giving descriptions of work done (valve service) please be as technically accurate as possible.
If you want an opinion on a technical isssue, we need accurate info.
Did the valves get removed and ground etc with valve seats etc, or was it merely a clearance check and shim adjustment?
