Packed up OEM head to send to Port Tech for a valve job
Port and Polish

nothing wrong with Rings
Valve Seal does not look damaged
seems to be seated.

Was going to send my HMP BIG head for repair but that will need a lot of work( a couple small cracks between the intake ports by seats)
and the head is too big (said no one ever) bike is LAZY down low

Ported head back yesterday
Adult Beverage and a hour and a half
valve adjustment is now
nominal +-.001 on intake and exhaust

Think I found something

Cleaning up my cylinder I slid #1 piston in its bore
Sliding it up and down it felt not smooth. Pulled all the rings. Slid smoothly
One ring on test another test
What I found was when I put the oil ring in
Check 2-4. Fine.
One with JUST the oil ring was not smooth
Grabbed a slightly used oil ring expander Feels perfect now
Looking at the expander I do not see any problem.

Are these new rings, or same ones you had in it previously?

Rings have a hour in them. Brand new
Only swapped the #1. Oil control expander

No block was only honed
I measured the block and pistons myself down wo .0001 of a inch
I think the oil expander is a little narrower than the others, allowing the first scraper I install to go either fully or partially past the step that is supposed to hold it. Cocking the expander slightly, causing the second scraper not to slide all the way back to the step on the expander

I have another block and set of pistons I will play with to see if that is it, but right now I want to get this assembled and back in the bike

Here’s something to make u feel better-I finished wiring my fueltech yesterday, and on first start (yea it started, hell yea) in ten seconds of running it pushed the cam tensioner out bcuz it wasn’t tight, and broke the cam chain.

That’s what I was getting at, I know what pain u dealing with lol

The intake valves look ok, I’m not taking all the turbo stuff off to check the exhaust, just gonna leak the motor and hope it’s all around 2%. already ordered a chain this morning. No chain pieces are in the motor tho, perfect break.

Motor reassembled. Cams in. Degree wheel on. Mag base is at work so. Check cam timing tomorrow

was sick from work on Monday so I didn't grab my dial indicator and base till today
Hopefully I do not get side tracked tonight and have a chance to double check the cams

I know my old head was Decked .014 over the couple builds I did with it
No idea if this head was decked(sure looks like it) but not sure how much

Day1 ordered chain
Day2 Cyl#1 leaked 20%, the rest were 2-3%
Day3 Changed valves, lapped them in
Day 4-5 couldn’t get the cams where I wanted, settled on 105/103.
Day6 Checked valve lash, too tight, out of my 20 spare shims, couldn’t get it close. had to order a shim kit.
Day7 Finally got the engine back in the frame last night lol
Today hopefully it starts

settled on cam timing HAHAHAHA I did the same thing......1/2 degree
adjust half degree the other way....adjust back to half degree.....F it close enough HEHEHEHEHEHEHE
