Stepped up to High Def

I was watching the football games on Thanksgiving when I saw a commercial for a 52" rear projection high def tv from Walmart for $474.00. Not a high def monitor but a built in high def tuner.

I said no way and went to the web site and confirmed it was true but it was for Black Friday only from 5:AM to 11:AM.

My wife and I made a plan that she would go to the Walmart in Coventry and I would go to the Walmart in North Kingstown. There is a Walmart a minute from my house in Cranston. Last year my wife had a real bad experience there. Total chaos with 0 coordination.

Any way she became real sick with a bug Thanksgiving night and could barely raise her head. So I ended up going to my planned Walmart store leaving the house at 1:50 AM without any sleep from 8:30 AM Thanksgiving morning.

They had 10 sets on hand and I was the 7th person in line but not everyone was there for the tv. Needless to say I ended up with the 2nd ticket for the 52".

They also had a 42 Plasma for $998.

I had tv in hand by 5:15 AM but had to wait 2 hours for my brother in law to come with his pick up truck to get it home.

I have made many comments about how Fkg retarded it is to be at a store the day after Thanksgiving at 1 or 2 AM. Well I've officially labeled myself a Fkg retard but with a 52" high def tv for $474.00.

Didn't get to watch it until a little while ago. The cable guy said that there was a filter in the line coming from the outside preventing the high def box from sending a signal back to the cable company to register it.

Couldn't watch the Patriots beat the Bears. I was pissed 10 fold. All is well now and glad I'm a Fkg retard.

You will never go back..

If you have a HD TV and you're running a standard cable wire or Composite Cables (RCA cables) you're picture quality is TERRIBLE because you're sending an analog signal to the TV. If you buy a HD box, you don't have to buy HD service. But the benefit will be that the box will have component cable connections - which when running an analog signal will give you the absolute best picture quality. I have the 56" JVC DILA and have tested both HDMI and component connections to find the best quality picture. Because there are only a handful of HD channels from DirecTV I'm getting most channels  in digital. And because HDMI looks for a HD signal for optimal picture quality, the digital channels look "grainy". Not so with component wires... the picture quality is superb.

You absolutely need quailty cables too. Don't beleive otherwise. Monster 1000 series cables are tremendous and well worth the investment.

Finally, if you watch a lot of DVD's and you don't want to shell out the money for a HD DVD player, you can buy an upconvert DVD player - usually less than $100. They quality is as close to HD as possible with spending over $500 on a HD DVD player. Or, if you have an XBOX 360, the HD DVD player for XBOX 360 was released last week. It plugs directly into the 360 and is $199. You can enjoy all the HD movies available now for less than paying for a stand-alone HD DVD player.

Got it from PC Richard. I was initially buying a 34"HDTV Trinitron. The 42" was listed on sale for 1299.00 but I saw it on Sony.com for 999.99 11/24-11/27.
Told salesman at PC Richard and they matched price so I switched order.
