Sticker Removal Spot

I decided to remove the eyesore warning stickers from the tank and underneath the handlebars, but I've run into a problem with one of the textured plastic panels.

They both came off without much problem, but I noticed there was a small white spot on one. I thought it was some left over adhesive, so I let some WD40 set on it for a few minutes and then and then scrubbed with a soft cloth a little. It wasn't going away, so I then figured it was a slight abrasion from me rubbing on it.

I put some wax on it to try and bring back the luster to the spot and essentially make it black again, but that didnt work either. Since nothing was working, I figured I would just let it be since it really wasn't that noticeable.

I guess it took the wax and/or WD40 to dry 100%, but, once I got it back on the bike, I essentially a big gray spot where I had gently scrubbed. I'm pretty sure it isn't from the chemicals because the spot would be even bigger. It is pretty big though, approximately 2-3 in he's across. So I guess it's just from the abrasion. And something I forgot to mention - I did was the panels after the WD40, so I did just put wax straight on top of that.

I figure perhaps some shoe polish may help, but I honestly don't know. I don't want to mess it up even further, so what would you guys use to restore the luster or 'blackness' to that area?

Thanks.

Can we see pics.

Mothers is a good brand

Here you go. This is after trying Back-to-Black and some Armor All. I'm starting to think it's just adhesive that smeared instead of coming off. It didn't look that bad until the WD40 had dried. Same goes with applying those other products. Most of the outer area pretty much goes away, but you can still see the whitest bit in the middle. Then when it dries, that's what I'm left with.

What do you guys think? If it is the adhesive, what can I use other than WD40, since that didn't seem to get it off. I want to make sure it's the adhesive first though, or else I'll just make it worse.

Thanks.

call justin at honda east. he can get you that part for like 15 bucks or so. if you really want it gone. the sticker will not be there either...at least im pretty sure it wont.???

the plastic is black and probably made in an injection mold, so it has to be on the surface only. im not sure what to tell you, except mothers makes some plastic polish. it almost looks like its faded from sun, even though it was behind the sticker.hrm

Try Goo-gone. What year is your bike. It might be weathered diff.

Will Goo-gone not affect the plastic?

I also thought about the color difference being weathering, but it has been garage kept and only has a couple thousand miles on it.

If worse comes to worse, it is pretty cheap to replace. But hey, a penny saved is a penny earned if I don't have to.

I know its too late for you, but in the future, use a hair dryer to remove those decals. They come right off with NO rubbing if they are heated first.
Heck, I'd even try to heat it up now. If it is sticker residue left, you'll know cause it will get "sticky" again.
