Stroker...

How many mm can you add to your crank before the cases need to be modified? Those of you running strokers how are you compensating for the longer crank, since I'm pretty sure nobody is offering an aftermarket block yet?

Frank,
I didn't think you'd fall for that one. Longer rods don't change displacement. Bigger crank circle or bigger bore do. Sometimes bigger crank forces bigger rods, but its the crank that makes it a stroker.

Longer rods would just neccesitate a taller block with zero increase of displacement. A stroked crank actually uses shorter rods because of the limitations of the block height. Rod ratio is affected by the shorter rods, but from what others more knowledgable than myself have stated it doesn't really hurt power output. Ideally you would use the longest rod possible, but in this case a compromise must be reached.

You are absolutely right. And thats been a lot of builders problems, thinking bigger is better. Not the case on the Hayabusa.

If you ask, most people will tell ya that you can only safely bore the throttle bodies 1mm.
Theres a tricky way of doing it but mine have been bored 3mm.

Throttle body, boot, and head are perfectly matched.

The wild thing is it cost somebody money for that kind of R&D. (I wonder who that might have been???)

First you have to have a realistic idea as to how you will use the motor. You can get a stroke increase one of 2 ways. You can modify your stock crank or pop big bucks for a custom billet. If you plan on running NOS or a turbo the modified stock crank aint the way to go. But for a street motor they will last just fine. I had mine stroked 3mm, but thats not the limit by any means. To correct the deck height you add spacers under the cylinders. For a 3mm stroke increase you will need 1.5mm of spacers, assuming the deck was correct to begin with. I got my spacers from Cometic. Good one Jay.

I will be wanting to see some of those new motor bolts though.

Tom,
did you remove your canisters and see if your hp numbers changed any yet?

Frank,
The guys doing the testing would have pulled the airbox open and removed the cannisters had I requested them to do so. But I called it off. I am going to re-visit this at years end, and Im going to make 3 additions to what I have already done. First, a pipe. Dont know which pipe yet. Second, the A-tech airbox. I have some info regarding this piece that convinces me its worth trying. Third, a larger set of throttle bodies. Likely just 2mm over. For now, Im going riding. Ive ridden a bit this weekend and it runs pretty darn good.

Motorhead,
Cause bigger aint always better.
