Strong gas smell

Hard to say, I'd say Jeff summed it up pretty much. perhaps lift up the tank and check all your hoses.

I was going to be a "jack arse" and tell you to lay off eating all them beans but thought I'd control myself a bit...

welcome to the org

then the usual 3 first questions
1. what gen are we talking about 99-07 or 08-20 ?
2. what milage?
3. what mods, if modified in any way?

and what kind of gas? smell?
please differentiate - oil or fuel/petrol (=gas?) caused?

can you see some up rising "fog" while a stop with running engine?

if petrol smell - does this only happen when engine is hot or even when "cold"?

It’s an 01 Busa and I believe it’s coming from the exhaust I mean my clothes the garage all smells like gas when it’s running. Just bought it back in September it only has 8,900 miles on it and yeah it happens hot or cold. I was actually thinking about changing out the spark plugs on it to see if that’ll help any. ‍♂️♂️

It won’t.

Ah yes welcome to owning a motorcycle, unless there is actual liquid coming out of the exhaust or rough running/heavy smoking than dont worry about it.

What does the exhaust look like? It is blowing black smoke and is the exhaust tip covered in soot?

well - with "gas" you mean fuel / petrol smell? i suppose so.

furthermore, I assume that you can smell the fuel/petrol very clearly as soon as you enter the garage?

did you ever found wet dots (of fuel) under the bike ?

lift the gas tank and look if you can find somewhere wet dots - caused by fuel leaking somewhere.
wipe all the hoses with your fingers, especially the underside, and if they get wet, you have found it.

or do you always leave the bike in the garage with to max refilled tank?
then leave 1/4" space between fuel´s surface and lower edge of the filler neck - possibly the tank exales / ventilates gasoline gases what can (will) be caused by the motor´s heat and the thatby resulting fuel expensioning.

No leaks you only smell when the bike is running

Wow, this has to be almost a record on length of response and reply times...

Light soot is ok, just a little rich or longer idle time...

When the bike is first started it goes into a "rich" condition which dumps a little more fuel into the system to help it start...Perhaps start it outside the garage.
yeah it really was but hey between work and painting the bike what can I say got distracted

Aftermarket exhaust? I have full systems on both my bikes and I really think that makes unspent fuel odors more noticeable. I've smelled it before (more on my Kawasaki) and noticed it on my clothes but if it's just coming out in the exhaust, I'm not too worried. If you have an aftermarket exhaust, you might benefit from a tune but as Bumblebee said, they run rich for a while when cold.

One thing I like about both my bikes is that I'll often get perfumy odor from the exhaust for a while when I first start them up. I thought that was a "new bike smell" but it's still there ten years later.

No smoke but light soot on exhaust
Same with mine, much more so on the Kawasaki than the busa. The busa is really just a slight stain after ten years. If it's dry, I don't think you need to be concerned.

I thought I got necroposted again.

Also people swapping exhausts tend to disable the PAIR, which otherwise assures the ignition of raw fuel in the exhaust. So there is more unburned fuel coming out if that is the case. Perhaps the OP can check or re-enable the PAIR.

Yep, I have the PAIR removed on both my bikes. Just got back from a ride and I noticed the smell of gas(oline) when I came back. I gues I must be used to it.

A lot of people just put a marble down the clean air hose from the air box to disable the PAIR on the busa. I believe you'd be able to feel that in the hose and maybe even see it.
