Suspension adjusting question

I want to start trying different suspension settings and my question is as follows, when I adjust the front "Spring Pre-Load Adjustment" that is the brass nut correct, do I use a socket to turn it, and then when I adjust the "Damping Force Adjustment" I just turn it with a screwdriver. I am looking at the manual and I just want to make sure I do it correct. Oh yeah and if anyone has any setting recommendations please tell me. I weigh in at 250lbs.

I don't know much about adjusting the supension but here is a link to a page that has different settings for different ride style and stiffnesses. maybe this will help you.
