Suspension adjustment

My 07 Busa is lowered 1.5" front and rear the typical way. I like the ride much better this way.

The problem is that when my other half is on the back, the rear tire and the under tail meet occasionally causing a rub.

I assume by adjusting the rear spring load could avoid this most of the time, but how much??

If the stock load length is 183mm and max load is 180mm, what is the common adjustment for the 2nd rider that most people use?

I assume compression and rebaound don't need to change?

Any help is greatly appreciated as I am new to busas.

I dont think adjusting the preload is going to help you here. You say you lowered your back end the "typical" way. Is that dog bones? This was the reason I went the fully adjustable lowering link route so I wouldnt be limited to 2 different settings. You might have to raise it up or get yourself some adjustable lowering links.

Yes dog bones is what I used,in the middle hole.

IT appears that I only bump on very hard bumps not all the time, so I thought a minor adjustment might work?

It might but the busa's preload is hard to adjust as it doesnt come with a tool to loosen those funny shaped nuts on the rear shock. I've heard of people using a punch of some sort and loosening them up and adjusting them back up but I have not moved mine. You could crank it down a little at a time and go for a ride and see if it fixes your problem. Problem is that you go to far and the bike will feel stiff with just you on it.

Adding some compression may help, but get a spanner wrench and add some preload. How much depends on your solo and combined wieghts.

Just get these and be done with it. It only takes about 5 minutes to raise and lower the bike. I do it all the time. At the strip I'm 3" down, regular street riding I'm 1" to 2" down, when I ride my girl I'm at stock height.

Besides, constantly readjusting your suspension will leave you forever feeling akward. Kinda like when someone moves the seat in your car or moves the rear/side view mirrors to better suit them. You can get it close to where you had it before, but never quite exact.
