Justouttime,
I was temped not to reply to such shotty diatribe, but I’m catching my breath from mowing the grass and have nothing better to do. Comments in-line:
“I think it is admirable that he saw combat and served our country, but are you casting a dispersion on the thousands of Reservists that stand at the ready but havn't seen combat?â€
Comment: I fully respect the folks of the guard and reserve units—your missing the point. The point was folks criticize Kerry’s military record. I don’t hear those folks talking about Bush’s record. For example, perhaps you can answer:
* Why Did Bush Miss His Medical Exam In 1972?
* Why Did Bush Specifically Request To NOT Be Sent Overseas For Duty?
* Why Does The White House Say Bush Was On Base When Bush’s Superiors Had Filed A Report Saying He Was Gone For A Whole Year?
* Why Is The Pentagon Under Orders To Not Discuss Bush’s Record With Reporters?
* Where Are Bush’s Flight Logs?
* Why Hasn’t Bush Himself Demonstrated That He Showed Up For Service in Alabama?
It would be an interesting tale since Bush himself hasn’t answered these questions. I don’t know if you ever served in the military, but Bush’s service record is unlike anyone I ever knew in the service. I personally prefer to have a commander that has seen, killed, and witnessed death and therefore understand the reality of war prior to sending off our finest men and woman in harms way.
“And I am sure that to be intillectually honest you share the same opinion of Clinton who did nothing and Gore who was a "Military Photographer" in the field for a few months and had a personal body gaurd to ensure that he saw no harm?
Comment: Your mistaking me for a dem with tunnel vision. I am an independent and voted reagon, bush sr, Clinton, and bushy jr in that order. While I agree that Clinton and Gore’s (whom I didn’t vote for) service record or lack of it is no better than Bush, neither wrapped themselves in a flag of patriotism to try to get elected. Neither of them attacked their opponent’s military record.
†Stop and ask yourself a Q, what has JK actually accomplished in his political career? Name one thing, just one. Weather it be a piece of legislation, reform, whatever. Just a note to save you some time, you wont find anyâ€
Comment: The busa service manual makes good reading, but u need to expand your library… Here’s a small capsule of JKs record just over the last several years (I organized by category. You’ll notices the references and source material at the end of each section, as any worthwhile claim should have… I just selected a few categories, as I have to be getting back to the grass in a minute….how bout this, for every piece of legislation and/or reform that JK either sponsored or co-sponsored I did up, you give me a buck and make it worth my time to dispel drivel.
Healthcare:
Kerry Has Supported More than 200 Health Care Bills on Key Issues Since 1997. In the last six years alone, Kerry has sponsored or cosponsored more than 200 health care bills. Many have become law, including: a bill to expand the availability of health care coverage for working individuals with disabilities; a bill to provide medical assistance for certain women screened and found to have breast or cervical cancer; and a bill to provide for research on muscular dystrophy. (S. 331, Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999, introduced 1/28/99 (Kerry original cosponsor), became public law 106-170; S. 662, Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act of 2000, introduced 3/18/99 (Kerry cosponsored 4/22/99), incorporated as an amendment to HR. 4386 which became public law 106-354; S. 805, Muscular Dystrophy Community Assistance, Outreach and Education Amendments of 2001, introduced 5/1/01 (Kerry original cosponsor), became public law 107-84)
Veterans:
John Kerry has worked in the Senate to increase spending on veteran health care. In 2001, Kerry voted to increase funding for veterans health care by $1.7 billion. In 1999, Kerry also voted to increase medical care for Veterans Health Administration and to give another $1.3 billion for overall veterans' health care. Kerry is continuing to work for veterans and, "in calling for greater access to health care for veterans, cited estimates of nearly 235,000 veterans on a waiting list for Veterans Administration services, with tens of thousands waiting to access their prescription drug benefit. Kerry is sponsoring legislation that would permit veterans already on the waiting list to fill a prescription written by a private physician at a VA hospital." Kerry repeated his commitment to veterans' health recently during a trip to Iowa: "Co-founder of the Vietnam Veterans of America and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kerry made frequent reference to his war service. Thousands of veterans are now being denied promised health care benefits, he said. "I'm particularly sensitive that we keep faith with those who have worn the uniform of their country." (Senate Roll Call Vote 1999, No. 285, No. 286; 2001, No. 84; AP 5/30/03; The Hawk Eye, 6/1/03)
Healthcare reform:
Kerry Wrote Legislation to Extend Health Insurance to Needy Children; Voted for Additional Funding to Expand the Program. In 1996, Kerry wrote the "Healthy Children, Family Assistance Health Insurance Program" to allow "families who do not qualify for Medicaid, but who are financially unable to purchase private insurance, to be given government subsidies to purchase private coverage for their children. 'This is a serious effort to stop the political bickering and help the millions of children without health insurance lead better and healthier lives, and give their parents the peace of mind they deserve,' Kerry said." (American Health Line, 6/21/96)
Kerry Authored the HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Assistance Legislation. John Kerry wrote the Aids Assistance legislation to help establish a comprehensive, integrated, five year strategy to combat the global spread of HIV and AIDS. It also significantly increases the funding for HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria prevention and treatment programs. 'The Kerry-Frist bill is a huge step forward," said Senator Frist. "It further validates U.S. leadership in the global effort to end devastation many countries face in the fight against HIV/AIDS'." (Office of Senator Bill Frist, press release 7/12/02)
Kerry's 'Nurse Reinvestment Act' Will Help End America's Nursing Shortage. John Kerry is the author of the "Nurse Reinvestment Act" which will help end the nursing shortage in the United States and is threatening our health care system. Kerry's legislation provides scholarships for nursing students, establishes training grants for nurses, offers grants to nursing schools for loan programs, institutes career ladder programs, creates a nurse retention and patient safety enhancement grant, and provides for a public service announcement campaign to promote the nursing profession. Dr. Charles H. Roadman II, Pres. of the American Health Care Association said Kerry was "deserving of praise" for his work to pass the bill. (CQ Weekly, 4/24/03; 107th Congress, S. 706; Oncology Nursing Soc. website: ONS Supported Legis. 107th Congress; US Newswire 4/6/01; Wash Times, Letters, 7/28/02)
Small Business
:
WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Senator John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), Ranking Member of the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, today announced the unanimous Senate passage of the Small Business Administration 50th Anniversary Reauthorization Act of 2003 (S.1375).
Kerry co-sponsored the legislation, which reauthorizes the programs of the Small Business Administration through fiscal year 2006, with Sen. Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine), Chair of the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. The bill will provide U.S. small businesses more than $108 billion for loan guarantees, venture capital investments, and business counseling and training over three years.
"The SBA and its many successful initiatives are tremendously important to small businesses, and with the passage of this legislation we have demonstrated our intentions to help America's small businesses weather this economy," said Kerry. "It is particularly important in this slumping economy that we do everything we can to foster the creation and growth of small businesses, which are our country's best job creators."
The legislation incorporates several small business assistance bills and initiatives introduced by Kerry previously this year, including:
- the Child Care Lending Pilot Act of 2003 (S. 822), creating a pilot program extending the SBA's 504 plant and equipment loan program to include non-profit child care providers;
- the Small Business Federal Contractor Safeguard Act (S. 633), implementing a two-tiered approach to close the loopholes that have allowed agencies to bundle contracts, and limit federal contracting opportunities for small businesses;
- the Microloan Program Improvement Act of 2001 (S. 174), designed to make the SBA Microloan Program more flexible to meet credit needs, more accessible to micro-entrepreneurs across the nation, and more streamlined for lenders to make loans and provide management assistance;
- the Native American Small Business Development Act (S. 1126), making statutory the Office of Native American Affairs at SBA, expanding on the previously established Tribal Business Information Center (TBIC) program at SBA and establishing two pilot grant programs to assist Native American communities; and
- the Small Business Drought Relief Act of 2003 (S. 318), directing the SBA to extend disaster loans to non-farm related small businesses affected by drought in declared drought disaster areas.
In addition, the legislation secures the Women's Business Centers by making permanent the Women's Business Centers Sustainability Pilot established by Kerry in 1999.]
