taglight connector mod use

Mythos

Registered
I am in the process of doing a fender eliminator and I am relying on one of the tutorials we have here. I went the extra step and removed the tail fairings so I could unclip the OEM taglight connector. I want to use the OEM connector for a power source for the taglight rather than cut the wire or tap it. I had hoped that I might be able to use the OEM connector to hook up my aftermarket taglight but this thing is so small, I'm not crazy about the idea of sticking both a hot wire and the ground in there. I would crimp on tiny contacts, shove them in and tape it up to insulate the two if this was a female connector but it is male.

I am a stickler about doing reversible mods. I hate to cut the wire. I know i could just go up another 10 inches and there is the battery but this is there so I'd sure like to use it.

Any ideas on how I might

A) remove the OEM wires (without cutting) from the connector?

B) safely insert the aftermarket wires into this thing?

Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

Dental pick or bamboo tooth pick, look carefully you will see where the wire locks into the plug just push and pull to release them, if your over 30 wear glasses or get a magnifying glass

that will take at least 3 hands not including the magnifying glass! Yes, I think I have a good guess at how to unlock them but was afraid to break anything. I was sticking a tiny straight slot screwdriver inside of the connector and pressing above the contact so the catch would stick out the back. Does that sound right? If so, I'll try a little harder.

The posi-taps had occurred to me but there isn't even anything plugged in there anymore. I have to get those wires out of there. I'm just anal about this stuff.

GOt it! No biggy. Thank you, guys. Just thought I'd post a few pics in case anyone else wants to do something similar.

Prolly a good idea to disconnect battery to avoid accidental short between the +/- contacts in the connector.

Use a miniature screwdriver. Slide in right along the top of the contact. Push firmly.

The wire crimp will push out of the back of the connector just a little bit. Grab that with a needle nose pliers and pull it out.

Pull the contact out. Tape the negative to avoid accidental contact or grounding until you hook up whatever you want. I'm using this for a taglight LED as it was intended. Might blow a fuse or something if a high draw accessory is hooked up?
