I'd imagine if you were in a full tuck, your jacket would be touching it...What do these type of ‘protectors’ protect against? What touches the rear center portion of the tank?

Something on the coat, pants, or zipper because every bike I’ve owned needed one or it gets scratched in that area. What do these type of ‘protectors’ protect against? What touches the rear center portion of the tank?

I never had an issue with my GSX-R1000 but due to the ergos on the Hayabusa and the shape of the tank and my height etc, the back side of the tank is prone to your jacket (at least) rubbing away the clear coat.Unless I fully lay over the tank I can’t see how anything could go wrong and even then on any bike I’ve ever owned I’ve never seen a scratch in that location. My belt buckle doesn’t touch and any zippers have covers.
I get that reference, can't remember which movie it is from but I remember that line..Maybe you ain’t holdin your mouth right.
So many ways to go with this statement...Maybe you ain’t holdin your mouth right.
I now have the 3M film on pretty much every foreseeable point of contact on my bike! Front of the fairing, front fender, leading edges fo fairing, belly wing, even along the trailing edges of my lower fairings where my riding pants might touch and on the face of the rear hump where my Jacket tends to touch! Love this stuff.I'm going to use authentic 3M protector film on the whole top and side of the tank. I see there are knock-offs of the 3M, don't do it. I'm also going to put a kanji pad on the back of the tank where my jacket zipper lays in a tuck. I'm going to put 3M at places where rocks may hit in other places too, like the front of the fender, front of the fairing on both sides, and other places on that diagram of precut film someone else posted. I got a 12x72 inch roll of 3M for $36 and a set of wipers for $9 from Amazon. Going to simply use soapy water for lubricant because that other stuff they sell, you have to hurry too much and it sets too quickly and is kinda expensive for a soapy water substitute. I'll have plenty for later replacements and will put some on my pickup after I paint it.
