Had a transmission lock up on a neighbors busa.  Once apart we seen no  reason for it.  No shavings or worn gears.  Wondering if it could be caused by a bent shift fork? It did this after he put a hole in his oil pan and drained all of his oil before it locked up. Any suggestions would help.

I should also mention its a custom busa with a 300 on the back.  He tried to pull in the clutch.

Thanks in advance

Guy that works at the local dealer here was having problems with the 2'nd gear slipping out, and kept riding it. Well one day he was getting on the highway, and his locked up. He said if it would of happened 30 seconds later he would be dead.

THe funny thing is that it starts and runs fine. It just won't go anywhere. Even when you pull in the clutch. The back tire is still locked up.

Do you have the transmisson actually apart or are you just looking at the gears with the case split?

Do all of the gears that slide (have a slot for forks) move correctly? Starts and runs? In neutral? So it is shifting?

Is the jack shaft on the wide tire kit locked up.

I'm still a bit confused about what you actually have apart.

Check the jackshaft man. Are there 2 different chains? Remove the one from the engine to the jack and that will help isolate things down.

There is a jack shaft. I would have called it a idler shaft. Not sure what he checked so far. When I got there he already had the transmission apart with the gears out. I won't be able to get over there to help him until the weekend. I work nights and he works days. But I am goin to call him and have him check the jackshaft.

Thanks.

The jack shaft was fine. Does anybody know if not having oil for a short amount of time could have fused the clutch plates together. I wish I was there before he took it all apart. There are so many things I would have checked first. But I guess taking the motor apart had to be done to make sure nothing else was damaged.

So the engine runs, but the rear tire is locked up? Did you try putting it in gear? If so what happened when it's in gear and the clutch is all the way out? Did you bother looking at the clutch basket and making sure the nut didn't come loose?

If he works for a dealership then I'd have one of their mechanics look at the transmission. Inspect the transmission, shift shafts, shift rods, and shift drum.

I had something like that happen to me I couldn't get it to shift out of 1st and was able to finally get it in neutral and my back wheel would stick it was as simple as air in clutch line. idk i thought tranny first then bent shift rod and shop told my it was probably a shattered gear wound up being air in the lines.
