Checked tappet clearances the other day. They all seemed to be just fine.

Here are the numbers, L to R:

You probably can do it. If you can do an oil change, you can change your plugs and if you can change your plugs, you can do a throttle body synch and if you can do a throttle body synch, you can check the tappet clearances and if . . . .

I don't like setting out on something I've never done without an experienced person to help. It would be nice if I lived a few hours from someone who knew their shid. I change the oil and filter everytime and save $110.00 minimum every change. And if I go to the purolator, you can make that $120.00. When GPW gets finished I'll be on syn and I guess that might double the miles between changes. I've downloaded the manual and the drawing shows the plugs way down in the head so I don't know about that one. That wold be as easy as changing oil if special tools weren't needed. Don't know a thing about syncing the TBs and don't have a manometer. Need to figure out tire changes for sure. I have found someone to do it for $25 a tire, dealer got me for $100 on the first one.
 
Tires is my next unexplored territory. Probably in the next week or so.

Fun! I just yanked my motor tonight. Have a coolant leak that I can't find; taking the head and jugs to get checked/decked.

I measured the tappet clearances before pulling the cams...looks like I need to get 4 shims; 3 exhaust and 1 intake

Anyone can do their own work. A man who was like a second dad to me taught me that. Take your time and make sure you understand what you are doing and you will be just fine.
 
Having the books helps. Thanks to Chris, I have the Haynes book which helps a great deal.
