To those who may know this area.  Its around Williamsburg, Virginia.  I had a human resource person from the Toano School System get in touch with me about teaching there next year.  I let her know that although I was finishing grad school this spring, I still had nearly a year of active military duty to do before retirement.  She emailed me back and said that they were building a new High School that would be opening for the 07-08 school year and would definately be needing Technology teachers and to please get in touch with her when I finish the service.
My question is this:
Is this area pretty rural? Are the home prices reasonable or nuts like they are here in Virginia Beach?  Bought my current house for 95K in 99, the house next door sold for 220K a few months ago and is no larger than mine.  Last but not least, what do you know about the area, both pro and con.

Thanks,

it for you.

The Williamsburg area is very lovely. I am originally from Chesapeake, VA (hopefully will be moving back soon). That area seems very rural. I don't think there is that much to do there. I guess you can go to Jamestown, the Pottery, or the Outlets.

When I was last there on a golf outing, I got the impression that the Williamsburg area is for old people/retirees. It was very quite there. I don't think the price of homes were that outrageous compared to the Washington DC Metro area.

I would like to live in a rural area. I enjoy hunting, and fishing. and would like to find a place where discharging firearms was no big deal. I figure I could comfortably commute twenty miles or so, especially if the commute was on fun, motorcycle riding roads.
