Tech question

Hey guys. I know there are a lot of good tech heads on this board and I told my buddy I would seek advice for him on his bike. It's not a Busa but I am sure someone on here will be able to point him in the right direction. Heres the scenario

2003 gsxr1000
23,000 miles

The valves were adjusted at 21,000 miles. Other than that no service has been done to the bike besides oil changes.

We were out riding the other day and he said he is experiencing a popping sensation around his foot on take off and when he hits the throttle he said the rpm's are going up on the tac but the bike doesn't really accelerate and then all of the sudden it catches. What do you guys thinks would be causing this? Needs new friction plates or what are your thoughts. Thanks for any advice.

Either the clutch or the transmission slipping. When you say it suddenly catches, do you mean when he backs off the throttle or it catches while still on it?? If it feels like it grabs when he backs off & does it in multiple gears then it is the clutch.

+1, sounds like clutch to me, my basket blew out after I kept experiencing the same. Ironically it was also right around the 23k mark. I had to order parts from...well I forgot her name, but the jc referred me to her on sh.org. Ended up spending >$1000 for parts & labor.
