This is NOT to wake sleeping dogs. I had my THIRD cam chain tensioner installed yesterday , `99 copper/silver , 10 000 miles. The second so called recall tensioner was much more of a disaster than the first one , in fact almost a complete failure. If you hear any strange noise from top right hand side , take it to the dealer asap !!!!!!!!! I`m not trying to scare anybody , it is for real , local dealer even admitted that they have a problem on some tensioners. If you hear no noises , you`re fine , otherwise check the damn thing.

HEY HERE IS MY 2 CENT WORTH MAYBE ITS NOT THE CHAIN TENSION ADJUSTER BUT ANOTHER PROMBLEM WITH HIS CASE OR THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALER 3 TIMES ON SAME BIKE I WOULD BE GOING SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR SECOUND OR THIRD OPION LOOKS LIKE MAYBE A PROMBLEM WITH HIS BIKE ENGINE. BAD CASE WARP CASE OR OTHER PROMBLEMS NOT FIXED RIGHT THE FRIST TIME
LIKE I SAID MY 2 CENTS WORTH

About the Cam Chain Tension Adjuster "CCTA"

I've have taken a closer look on the original CCTA, and found that it will
release itself if you turn the adjuster arm
clockwise and anti clockwise motion, "simulating engine vibration",(under pressure) quite easily.

Also I noted that the Adjuster arm was polished on an area of 2 mm which points out
that the arm has being moved during
operation.
I'm really interested to know what is causing the Ticking noise, is it what I suspect the piston meeting the valves or the chain moving ?
Also how far away is the piston from the valve train, i.e how much can the Valve timing flex before disaster will take place.

Still got my warranty to think about before
dismantle the engine !

I said this before in a earlier post regarding chain tensioners and dealers and I'am going to say it again.
If you are having problems with getting recall work done/or done timely you need to call the National Highway Safety Commission (NHSC) or Suzuki. Below is a copied statement from the NHSC website, pay close attention to the last few lines:

Vehicle Description: Motorcycles. The spring in the cam chain tension adjuster can break allowing the cam chain to jump to the wrong position on the cam shaft sprockets. If the chain jumps to the wrong position, severe engine damage could occur causing sudden engine failure.

Sudden engine failure could cause the rear wheel to lockup, disturbing the rider's ability to control the motorcycle.

Dealers will replace the original cam chain tension adjuster with a revised cam chain tension adjuster. Owner notification began October 13, 1999. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Suzuki at 1-800-255-2550. Also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------This was copied directly from there web site...don't screw around with your dealer if you have tried to have recall work done with no success..contact the National Highway Safety Commission or Suzuki direct if they keep pushing you aside. Its your bike(and maybe your life if that rear wheel locks at high speed)..

Don't give up on the Busa...it is isolated to only a few.

Clinton:
If it was a Suzuki Extended Warranty Provided by GECC. then you must transfer it into your name and pay I think like 25.00 for the paper work.If it is another I do not know.
You can buy it from any Suzuki dealer and prices DO VARY SO SHOP.

Also Clinton E mail me your VIN all 17 digets starting with JS.......
I will run it for you tomorrow if I get it tonight and let you know what has been done.
As far as finding a good Suzuki shop I don't know I could help you there I am in Texas.
E-mail me asap.Johnnycheese@aol.com

I doubt it is the piston hitting the valve.
If so your bike would runs like Sh*T.
The polish area is normal but I have seen more like 3-4 mm on other bikes this is where it is suppose to give a bit when everything expands.
JRBUSA posted yesterday what I am talking about.
I agree with Speedster If you have a question Go to a dealer with a real (TECH)
If you are still under warranty cool if it is about to run out and you dont want to rebuild your motor(with preformace parts)
buy a Suzuki extended warranty and don't worry.

What the f**k.....this is not what i want to hear. I just bought this bike but i am seriously considering bailing out on it and getting a 12R or another R1. Leave it to suzuki...

Speedster the fact that you are having the same problem repetitively suggests to me that your dealer doesn't know how to install the cam chain tensioner. Is this a case of the same mechanic making the same mistake over and over? It could even be a case of the same mechanic giving poor advice to any wrench in the shop who happens to be doing the job.

You dealer said he's "having a problem on some tensioners." The fact that this dealership is "experiencing" problems tells me that the problem is not with the bike...it's with him.

I haven't heard of anyone else having post warranty-fix problems in this area.

Bill Clinton don't give up on the bike. This is quite an isolated incident.

I like my Busa, and the Kawaski 12R
still has to prove itself, (about the rod-failure happened in Germany), extending the drive in period to 2000 Miles ?
Have they build an 1200 cc engine out of
the 900 cc or what ?

Suzuki has build very good engines previously,(and the Busa is no exception
to that).

The only main problem they have is the Cam chain tension adjuster which I believe is
still under investigation and they will improve the construction.

Every new motor cycle will have there
weak spots. Thats the risk you have to take
when you buy something that has not been tested thoroughly.

Clinton the point I was making is WHY WORRY
how many bikes and a couple with a problem big deal.
OK I will say it one more time.
IF you are worried You have Warrany If you are close to it runnung out BUY a Suzuki Extended warranty LIKE I did and I am a tech.
Now I don't worry and I never have.
If you give up you will miss out on a great bike(not that the 12 is not great also)
but the first ZX11 in 90 second gear and front sprockets falling off if you had one would have junked it no you would have missed out on a great bike.
Get a warranty and ride the PI*S out of it.

Chenango Import Motors, Yorkville NY, will sell you the standard three year extended warranty for $350.00. 1-800-346-4246, ask for Dianne and have VIN and credit card handy.

Does this affect the 2000 models?

How much is an extended warranty? Does this price vary from dealer to dealer or can you talk directly with Suzuki?

I guess maybe i should mellow out a bit about this , but my concern is compounded by the fact that the 4 Suzuki dealers that i spoke to about doing the recall (mine is not yet done) are absolutly 100% clueless. No, not clueless: they were borderline retarted. One dealer (which is more of a lawn and garden shop than a suzuki dealer) wasnt even familiar with the gsx1300. Another dealer told me that this was a warranty issue and that i would need to transfer the warranty from my buddy who sold me the bike to myself and pay a warranty transfer fee and then they would do the work. A third dealer insisted that there was no way that my bike needed a cam chain tensioner because they were all switched under recall before the original sale. this dealer acted very suspicious of me: as if i was trying to rip him off. The only dealer with a clue told me that yes, he could do the work, but he would not get to it until the end of May. And it was like pulling teeth just to get him to volunteer to look at it 6 weeks from now. needless to say i think that these dealers totally blow compared to the Yamaha dealer i usually go to. They act as though there is major confusion within suzuki about the nature , or even the existance of this recall. Short of firebombing my friendly local Suzuki dealer or maybe releasing the wrath of the big C, Hillary, on them im pretty much screwed. If I had a rusty old Suzuki quadracer that needed a new sparkplug i would still have my doubts as to wether my local dealers could do the job without botching it. OK that is enough shitty dealer ranting....can anyone tell me how much the basic extended warranty would cost me? it is looking like a good move.

That is great. I am familiar with Chenango import motors and have relatives in the Utica area. I was quoted $450ish by another dealer and i thought it was a tad high
