The best time to pick up a nail

Just backing into the garage after a 120 miler, I notice a shiny dot in the OE rear tire with only 1,500 miles on it! I put it up on the stands and get the needle nose pliers and sure enough, when I tug on it air begins to escape. I checked the pressure and it was 46 (after a quick ride that sounds about right) so I must have picked up the nail very closeby.

Luckily, I got out my brand new 'Genuine Innovations' tire repair and inflating kit and only lost 25 pounds of air before I got it plugged. Great little Co2 gun to load the cartridges and inflate the tire comes in the kit, along with everything needed to get back on the road. I also have a dozen spare 16 gram cartridges for use on the road but at home I just rode up to the nearest air station and topped it off. Still holding air but the rain increased so no more riding today.

You know, I really hate the thought of replacing that tire. I had planned on having enough miles on it by mid June to change it before my 3-4000 mile tour but now? Cause its got a plug in it? Boy, that question should spark some responses...

Don't ride long or fast on that plug.

If you don't want to buy a new tire yet, take it to a shop were they can install one from the INSIDE. Those are good plugs, but even with those you have to remember your tires are no longer z rated. Keep it below 120mph.
