The scourge of florida (luv bugs)

It's getting that time of year again. Wondered how you guys dealt with em.

I'm driving a black 06 so I figured parked in the sun (and getting a million degrees, although I go to great lengths to avoid parking in the sun) before or after the luv bug barrage, that the little bastards will screw up my paint quicker than sheet.

The only way I can think of dealing with it is to carry around a rag in my backpak (actually I already do, microfiber towel

), get it wet and wipe the little bastages off EVERYTIME I STOP, before they have the chance to bake on...or should I say...bake IN.

Any other ideas, thoughts, comments, or suggestions...

I remember them dirty little bugs when i lived in Daytona.

Good luck!!!

A good wash, then a good coat of wax. Puts a barrier between the bug remains and the paint. Speaking of that...I need to do mine.

Use Eagle 1 or anything with teflon base in it. They don't stick too bad, but still don't let them bake on.

Yeah but here's the deal, you go out for a long ride start hitting luv bugs...several hours later of ridding in the sun...they are baked on.

So what ya' do...just stay home and don't ride.

Some people spray PAM on the front of the bike... that way they slide off. Or spray on Honda ProShine and DON"T wipe it off. Leave it really thick on there.

As soon as we get home we throw a towel soaked in hot water over the bikes. Let sit for about 10 mins and they wipe right off.

Hate those stupid bugs...and it's about that time isn't it?

I have the black 06 also. The honda stuff works well. I have some stuff that does it all and they wipe off easy. Keep it waxed! Never stop riding!!!

how long does this bug season last?
It's twice a year. Once in the spring, once in the fall. Usually lasts about 3-4 weeks.

They congregate over the hot asphalt, and mate. There has been many many times that the best thing to do is just tuck behind the windscreen and hope you get through the swarm quickly.

Their guts stink too...if you get parts in your helmet air vents you'd think you were in a chemical factory. It's pretty rancid.

Not to mention if you don't get it off right away, their guts eat the paint off your vehicles.

Gotta love Florida.

Yeah, but that's out of 12 months of riding time...

You get used to them. Just something to else to clean off the bike.

OK I pioneered the heavy Pro-Shine Application with out any wipe down. (At least I think I did) It worked like a charm, when I would get back from a ride, I would just spray the front end down again with the pro-shine and wipe her down carefully.

But it's not just pro-shine that would work, you could also use just about any spray on wax as well. I stayed far away from th ecooking spray because of the potential mess. I just couldn't see scrubbing the bike down with dish soap after a ride just to remove Spray, let alone the bugs.

The worst thing you can do to your paint in florida though, is wash it without first dusting all the grit off with a California Car duster or similar. OH and following too close at over 160mph for a few miles, that will put the 1/8th inch deep pits in your paint...

The Hot towels work wonders though, like TKM mentioned just lay em' on the nose and leave it for a little bit.

OK single best solution?

Move to Washington, I can ride for about 3-400 miles and count the bugs on two hands.

and there will be nothing bigger than a fly.
