THE TRUTH!!

I haven't had a chance to get on a busa yet. What's the deal with slow speed cruising in traffic? Is the bike smooth as silk at slow speeds like some say or is it throttle on/off and hard to control at slow speeds? All the reviews of the bike contradict each other on this aspect of the bike. The only thing they agree on is its ridiculously fast on the open road.

Hardest part for me to get use to was that the FI is a lot more responsive. The carbs, even when set up correctly, just don't react to throttle input like the injection. I ride mine in slow traffic with no problems & seldom have to put a foot down. Just takes some getting use to.

If you are careful and don't act stupid, it will do you ok. It is a bit heavier than other bikes and you are sitting more on top of the bike rather than have the bike surround you.

Slow speeds do not seem to bother it, except for sitting at longer lights and construction zones for periods of time.... Seems to get hot real fast.

Watch cornering,(the big bike tends to wanna ride wide)and when you stop, make sure you got a hold of the bike, it is no 600 and there is a point of no return when leaned over...

Enjoy!

It is truly an awesome bike, powerful, great sound, fantastic looks and handles like a dream on the open road.

I had a 1995 600F3, a 1999 600F4, and a 2000 ZX-6R --- Iam here to tell you that at Low Speeds I am more comfortable on the BUSA.

ADOWELL, don't tempt me! You have no idea how many questions I could possibly ask about the busa. That damn bike is all that has been in my head for the past 3 weeks. Soooo, what DOES it take to get to senior member?

It's not a problem. There is some lash in the drivetrain, and the response from throttle inputs is quick. But it is in no way uncontrollable. The bike does what you tell it to do... EAGERLY!

You do need to be a little more cautious with throttle inputs on wet pavement (even compared to other bikes) as the monstrous torque of this bike makes it easy to spin the rear tire with little effort. And at low speeds you need to be sure of you balance because of the weight of the bike. At high speeds the bike is incredibly stable.

I just hit 2600 bone stock miles and had absolutly no problems with my busa surging or throttle problems at small throttle openings.

But, friday when I got my service manual in (finally) that all changed when I adjusted my Throttle position sensor (which was way off indicating high on the dealer mode indicator)

While I need to relearn to ride at slow speeds where you are rewarded by smoothness, I would not trade slow speed response at small throttle openings for the improvement in the swift kick you get at more spirited throttle positions which improved noticably.

My recommendations would be to have the TPS checket at the 600 mile service by your dealer or do what I did and spring for the manual and DIY.

The Busa is easy at slow speeds. It's very low and has a low center of gravity so it's not tippy at all. I have a Honda XR650L and it's much easier to balance the Busa with both feet on the pegs at very slow speeds. My mostly stock Busa has very smooth throttle response with no surges or stumbles. It feels a lot like some sort of electric turbine.

The throttles on a Suzuki tend to snap back when you try to ease off the gas. It's something that you need to get a good feel for it to avoid the lull and surge of the FI.

Thanks guys. I was wondering if it was a real problem with the bike or a problem of having a heavy throttle hand. I think I know the truth now no thanks to those magazines.

I disagree with the majority on this one. I have a '00, just broken in, at 1.1k miles. I find the "engine" smoothness to be noticeably deficient in two ways. At slight throttle, light load, at slow riding speed independent of gear selection, the engine stumbles, or what others claim feels like
"surges". This condition may become even more pronounced after installing an aftermarket exhaust, definitely the case on my Busa.

The other area where the Busa lacks in smoothness, (which I read in some of the magazine reports on the '99), is at around 4700 rpm the engine. At that engine speed,
in any gear, you will find there is a noticeable vibration or a so-called "rough spot". I think this is characteristic of all the Busa, whether '99 or not. My '00 certain has it and definitely noticeable, but not really a problem or of any genuine concern.

The slow speed stumble IS, however, very bad and I am currently looking for a solution . . . PC-II?

This is one of my only two complaints about this bike.

In first gear, especially, it is a really testy critter when you try to keep up some consistent throttle at very slow speeds(like going through a 15mph hairpin)

My advice is to use 2nd gear for practically everything except getting off the line. That sketchy feeling in the throttle only exists for me in 1st gear.

dsinned, I am with with majority. I have a bone stock 00 with 1,400 mls. It has no hesitation or stumble anywhere. I would take it back to the dealer before spending $300 ON A PCII.
