Things to check before a high speed run

I have an 05 Gen I. It has 8,000 miles on it. It has new tires, chain and sprockets, and cush rubbers.

Everything I can see seems tight. The brakes are good, there is nothing odd in the steering and no vibration. The chain is perfectly tensioned.

So, what should I check before taking it to the top for about two miles. Anything that might bite me in the ass that I should be looking for?

have you saftey wired anything? hate to loose an axle bolt, all your oil, or anything like that at speed. be shure to do a pre ride check of the road or better yet walk the area you are going to run to see where any bumps, road snakes, dead animals, sand or gravel might be hideing.
wear as much gear as you have, going down at speed, well??? most of us don't live if that happens, even with gear at 170+, your toast.
:poke:maybe a preflight prayer.
good luck, be as safe as you can, its a rush, im shure you'll be just fine:thumbsup:

Check your ego....... if it dosen't feel right or seem right shut it down.

....Me, I just pin it till I see God.

Have fun!!

That's actually not something that a lot of people think about IMO. I would think most sportbike tires are z rated. I know mine are, but still.
You're right: they don't think about it. But would you really want to take the chance of having your tire wander off the rim at 200mph?

There is no 2 mile race track that I know of..... Don't forget you need room to slow down. safety wire a good idea. If you planning a wide open open run on a roadway, make a new plan, find a LSR track near you. You get a lot of benefits from it Emergency crew an transport ready an on standby, a safety inspection to make sure yo u are doing it right.

I couldn't agree more. :beerchug: It's as controled of an environment as you can get. When it's your turn the starter says, "the track is yours" meaning it's time to give it a go and not worry about people, cars, cops, or unexpected road conditions. You can concentrate on going fast and not think about the what if I get caught.

If you're running those kind of speeds on the street... I'd check to make sure you've got an angel on you shoulder. Or better yet one on each...

sorry for a thread jack....but what tires are rated over 168mph?
the z rating only means above 149...most have a second rating (w)of 168 that is elswhere on the tire not in the size description...anything above that rating would be an aircraft tire:laugh:

so a ZR tire is good for over 149 mph.....why the w-rated for up to 168mph?

sorry if these are stupid questions:laugh:
