This won't be easy...

Before anybody gives me a hard time, let me say that this isn't exactly what I want to do, but I am smart enough to realize that toys aren't necessary in my life right now.

I think I'm going to sell my '01. I absolutely love this bike..more than any luxury I've ever had, but I realize I need to make an intelligent choice here. I would like to plan ahead and get a newer car now before I get out of college next year....I don't want to have to worry about reliable transportation or big payments immediately after I get out of school. I'll have time for another Busa later on, but right now a newer daily driver is far more important.

If I do sell my bike, what do you folks think it's worth? The mods are as follows:
'01 Blue & Silver w/approx. 16k miles (LOTS of highway - previous owner bought bike brand new & rode 40-50 miles to and from work every day..I have ridden back and forth to Purdue quite a few times)
Ceramic coated Jet-Hot headers w/Yosh carbon slip ons
Clear Alternatives front turn lenses.
Black Chrome windscreen (I believe it's Zero Gravity)
Reverse Indiglo gauges w/white LCDs
Pro Grips
Throttlemeister bar ends
Suzuki Hayabusa logo seat (silver/black)
Power Commander 3 USB
Speedohealer
Ivan's TRE
UFO Undertail w/Clear Alternatives LED integrated board
Muzzy aluminum fan blade
Galfer stainless lines (all brake & clutch) & new pads
Fairing screens
Carbon Frame Sliders
Brand new EK chain w/sprockets (ordered from Dennis, still in box...haven't installed them yet)
Scorpio Alarm system w/pager
K&N air filter
Mobil synthetic oil used on all changes since I've owned it.

I think that's most of the stuff. I've got a few other odds & ends I would probably throw in with a sale. Pictures are available. Like I said, this isn't what I really want to do, but it's what I should do to prepare myself for life after graduation. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me come up with a fair price to keep in mind.

Ask high for it and take what you can get for it.

Id say start @ $8500.

About 16,000 miles....not sure if that is too high to start out asking a higher $ or not. Of course, I'm open to everybody's opinion and help. Thank you all.

You can do it one of two ways if you have all the stock stuff: try $8k cause 16k over 4 years is only a 1k miles more per year than the average.if someone offer $7500 let it be gone.If that don't work strip down to bone stock and sell accessories seperately and lower price of bike way down and watch how quick it disappears.

I'd keep it...

it's a reliable source of transportation, not to mention it isn't a gas guzzler....and with gas prices only rising in the next couple of years, it would be a wise decision.

Then again, I'm also seriously thinking about selling my 03 V6 Altima....so I can get my bike back up and running. That'll be my POV.

Blue Book on the bike in your area (West Lafayette) is $6930

KBB Value

Although you have about 10,000 miles less than "average" according to them, so that could help add to the value.

The problem with a lot of mods on that is you can't really count on being able to put their value into the asking price, unless you're lucky enough to get someone who is more about that sort of thing than they are the actual value/worth of the bike itself.

I'd say look at asking $7750-$8000 (8500 is probably a bit stiff), and then plan on being somewhat fexible with the price.

Good luck!

Have you really thought over this

If it were me I would keep the Busa & get a classic Stang or Camero--mid-late 60's. If they are not HP models or drop tops good ones can be had for less than 10K. Easy to work on, plenty of parts available. If you don't crash it will always be worth what you paid if not more.

Your high profile with a Busa & a classic car. Unless you go for a Hummer, Vette or a low rider with wagon wheels you will disappeaer in the rush hour crowd.

1st option- be childish and keep the bike. that would be my course of action.

2nd option- Do the responsible thing, sell it and buy your new econo-cage. If you go this route, reinstall all stock pieces you still have and sell the aftermarket stuff separately. They won't affect what you get for the bike very much unless you find a very understanding sucker.........er, buyer.

Well, it's official then....the bike is for sale. $8250 OBO sounds like a fair starting point according to what everybody has said thus far. I would really like to get at least 8 out of the bike to put towards a car.
Thank you all for your help, and let me know if any of you or anybody you know are interested. Thanks again.

I say keep the bike you will regret it everytime you see a bike go past you one the road. If you have yo sell it I agree with ask a high price and jump on the first good offer.

I don't have to sell it, but I honestly do feel like it's the right decision. The bike is paid for, the title is in my hands....I just think I should use the $ from this towards a nice car. When I get out of college, I can avoid car payments.....hopefully once I get out on my feet I can go ahead and finance a new bike.
I won't go much over a year without a bike, I don't think I could if I tried.

You get nothing but respect from me. Sounds like your priorities are where they need to be and you're ready to go far in life. Something tells me you don't have plans on living out your days renting an apartment and wondering if you can make that motorcycle repair (in the parking lot) and still pay the rent.

I think a few people also need to realize that a Busa isn't going to get you to work when it's -5º outside with 3' snow drifts.

I have no doubt you'll have another soon and you'll be doing the mods during the winter months in your heated garage.

We should still hit lunch at Hooters in Lafayette before you sell! Maybe I can convince my friend to sell his XX and buy your bike.

Turbo-Torch, that is one hell of a complement....thank you for your words of praise.
I have absolutely zero doubt I'll have another bike (either a Busa like this or a new model, if there ever is such a thing). I know having a car year-round is the most important thing now, so I decided not to settle for a vehicle other than what I want, as long as it can be fit in my price range.
We should definitely meet for a beer and some food at Hooters sometime...even if I am without the bike. Let me know a time and I don't see a reason I couldn't be there. I move back into my new apartment in 1 1/2 weeks.

Thanks again everybody for all of your help, it is greatly appreciated.... spread the word!
