Its fairly simple if you have any mechanical know how. It is on the right side of the motor sitting on the bike. The stock one is the thing sticking out of the back of the cylinder. My bike was making a strange sound, like marbles in the tank at low rpm and it turns out it was the excess slack in the cam chain that wasn't being taken out by the stock tensioner. I replaced it with a manual one from Schnitz racing in about 1 hour.
It is a preety easy thing to do. I Did mine in half an hour. My stock tentioner went at seven hundred miles. I have fifteen hunred on it now with no noises. Change it before the chain skips a tooth and you loose your ride for a while.
To be sure try to set the engine on TDC compression stroke. To prevent the cams from backing up and jump timing. I have seen this happened,then the cam cover needs removal and both cams realigned. My 2 centavos
