Tire blistering

Figured I would ask some of our local experts a few questions.

1. Do all sport bike tires blister from sustained high speed running? (My stock bridgestones on my 05 blistered badly after I went on a 100 mile highway trip moving along around 120+ the entire trip.) Temp was aroun 89 degrees outside with sun. Moderate sweeping highway bends with nothing too bad. My Pilot Powers don't seem to blister from this abuse but the bridgestones did???

2. Also, has anyone had problems with the decals showing imperfections (lines or bubbling) on the right hand side of the bike where it is close to the head pipe?

Tires getting balled up means you finally got them warm

This is the best shot I can find, the pic doesn't do the melted look justice though.  But you'll get the idea.

If you have a decal that is bubbling up near where the header is then its getting hot probably and you might have a melting plastic issue...

Yeah, I check all over inside and out on the plastic. No visible heat damage. My 06 le is begining to show some weird markings on the right side as well. I will try to post up some pics. It almost looks like the long horizontal air pockets under the decal. i don't have my 05 any more so I can't post pics of the bubbles.

Back to the tires. Mine looked sort of like that. But your tire tread looks good, my whole tire was getting deformed even the tread pattern, mostly in the center because it was all highway riding. You could literally reach down and peel rubber off the tire like dead skin from a sun burn.

At the track, uneven/deformed tire wear is a sign of the wrong PSI or needing a suspension adjustment.

Since yours is coming from freeway, it may have more to do with the road surface than the bike. Is it concrete and bumpy??

It was not bumpy, but it was the style of rought concrete that has the grooves cut across the road surface. Maybe it was producing more tire heat than normal.

Whew...I just gotta ask. How in the world could anyone get away with sustained triple digit speeds for 100 Miles and not get caught by the highway patrol?? Wherever you live, I'm movin' there!!

An answer for #2. My decals are bubbling on both sides, but the right side is worse.

How much air pressure are you running

Actually, that is kinda what it looked like except it was kinda like little melted holes and stuff.

CCbusa05 : I was on 79 south bound going to WV and then onto 68. it was 100 miles round trip not one way. Not sure how I didn't get pulled over.

I wish bikes were given a diffferent speed limit than cars. I could cut all of my travel time in half if they would just let us go double the speed limit.

Thats it, I am running for president of the United States and I am going to make some changes. Who is going to vote for me?

+1... should always have a few more lbs in for highspeed/long durations stuff. Never had a problem with Bridgestone or Michelin...

The pics are great examples of track time... The pic of the back tire is over heated... prob hazing it on corners... The pic of a front is just typical after a tire has been warmed and you roll into the pits... the tires will pick up all kinds of stuff...

Neither one though is related to blistering then chunking

I got pulled on 68 about 15 miles west of Morgantown a few years ago. 90+ in a 65. State cop let me go with a verbal warning.

120mph is not excessive for that many miles. I think that that your p-si is up. 38-42 depending on conditions.
