Tire change question

I have read both the mark on the tire is the lightest and the heaviest spot, which one is true? I bought a shinko 005 200 for the rear and I plan to put it on myself because for some reason all the dealerships around here have gone up on their prices $65.00 just to install. I figure for that amout of money I would be better off to buy one of the tire change stations from redline and give it a go. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Light / Heavy ??? I have ran Michelins and have always put the mark on the valve stem and never had an issue from 0 to fastest. Amazing, I know. I use a set of spoons, but a tire changer would be nice.

I agree.. go for it... what about balancing it though?..

Like I say, I've never had a balancing problem with the Michelins. I was told that the quality of tires today allows for this. All I can say is I went through three fronts and eight rears and the only issue I ever had was with a Shinko I had to buy in NC on a ride.

I static balance the rim before I put a tire on to find it's heavy spot. Mark it then install the tire by matching the paint mark(if the tire has it)to the rims heavy spot.

You sir are correct.... Day after New Years Eve!

mark to valve stem... . but an easier way it to buy Pirelli Corsa3.. (one of the few factory balanced tires)

if you change the front make sure you mark the rim (right/left) spoons and some water/soap sollution is your friend.

The rim is already marked with direction of rotation. But I use a paint pen and put an arrow on the inside so it's obvious which direction rotation is. And yes, water/soap is your friend. I also like to put the tire in the sun for a little bit too.

What's even better, going to a friends house you can change it for you... (and balance)

As far as balancing goes I'm going to try the Dynabeads. Has anyone else tried these? anything I should be aware of?

The front wheel can go on both ways.
What is the purpose of a direction marker on it?

Really??? I thought there were arrows for the direction of rotation, which puts the valve stem lagging right behind one of the spokes, instead of leading the spoke (if that makes sense).

And why aren't you dropping names of said friend

how about go so fast the valve stem sucks right out of the rim and floats around inside of the tire ...

Said friend is down in S. FL. Works for me so far, whenever I make my road trips down into FL, I swing by his place and do some tires (when needed). Like Thanksgiving week, I brought down with me the spare set of Busa wheels and took the F4i wheels and mounted/balanced 4 tires/wheels. Then I stopped by another friends place that owns a car/truck tire place and he took my old tires...
